Like I said in my journal, I'm starting a doll drawing project.Here is the first one (besides Cuddles if anyone remembers that). This doll is notorious for being sad all of the time. Probably because he's missing an eye and no one loves him. It could also be because he just isn't unique, just average, nothing special.

He's certainly a sad little doll in need of some decent repair work. And maybe a hug or two.

Oh my god, this looks almost exactly like a video game character my friends and I made named Patch. Missing eye, heart patch, and kinda burlap-y texture. Gives a serious hint of nostalgia

Mace Points are just a little something I give out that can be exchanged for all sorts of prizes, kinda like tokens at Chuckie Cheese's.
Most of the prizes are requests, some different types done by myself, others generously donated by other artists in which I kinda operate as the middleman for.

I have a stuffed dog (like a beanie baby but with actual textured fur) that I've had forever and she has ALWAYS had a sad face. So, maybe, in a way he is over-loved... you know, faded. maybe his owner decided he was just too fragile to play with anymore, tried to fix him up, failed, and put him on a shelf.

He does have an over-used look doesn't he with his eye fallen out? I drew this little guy up in 15 minutes. I can't say I gave a whole lot of thought to his past but being over-loved, put up on a shelf and probably later forgotten sounds pretty good.

This little doll turned out very simple but a lot better than what I was expecting. I'll be doing more dolls eventually though I haven't got to doing any dolls recently. I really want to get to this project but (and it wouldn't take me too long to draw a doll of any sort) but it kinda takes back seat to the comic. There will be more dolls in the future, I can say that much though they probably will be happier than this little guy.

This is one of my favorites of your work you've uploaded. The doll looks so soft and cuddly (for the lack of a better word), I want to give him a hug, or use him for a pin cushion. He reminds me of a doll that has the potential to turn into a voodoo doll. Regardless it is a wonderful piece.

Thanks. I think he would like a hug better than being used as a pin cushion.I can definitely see him being used a voodoo doll though he doesn't look much like anyone. I'll be eventually drawing more dolls sometime in the future.

A puppetmaster, eh? That's a pretty good idea. I do have a character who sews the dolls together but that's about it.

I'll eventually get to drawing more of these dolls. I have a list of dolls to draw that's about 40 dolls long at the moment.

This is a really nice style - the lines are strong and clear while still being sketchy, the shading is soft and minimal but effective. And it's so. freaking. cute. Every bit of it. His doll "body language," his little frowning stitch mouth, the fact that he's staring dejectedly at his own eye... x'D I want to adopt him. He can sit gloomily on my desk and keep me company. We'll discuss the meaning of despair...and existential angst. Just small talk, you know.

Thanks, happy you like this little guy. A friend of mine might actually try to sew this guy and whatever other dolls I draw up. Not sure if he will actually get to it as he's really lazy but it is a possibility.

I just saw Coraline and the preview for 9 a couple days ago. I was inspired by a bit by both of them (and I've been wanting to start drawing dolls for quite some time). I'm definitely going to go see 9 when it comes out.

This little doll is so simple and sad-looking but it really is getting a lot of love. I originally drew it as a body reference for what my future dolls will be based off of but this one has taken on a lot more life of its own than I ever expected.

Yeah I agree the doll is getting alot of love lol yet at the same time it is showing loneliness, like it was abandoned and forgotten as if it lost its heart.

Aww....this is really cute!! Although, he does make me a little sad...especially that no one loves him....damn it all, I'll love the thing if no one else will!! DX He's cute. 
Anyways, I REALLY admire what you did with the shading. I SUCK at shading and I think you did that really well.
