Description Added 2/7/08

The Questing Beast is a weird monster. Described as having "the body of a lion, the head of a serpent, and the legs and feet of a deer."

Dunno how well I captured that, but I got the lion/snake/deer mix, anyway.

They need to make a movie with this thing in it, just so I could hear what " the sound like forty baying hounds" sound like.

What wizardry is this? To have captured the Pelinore's questing beast inside this foul magic box! Absurd, the questing beast cannot be caught!
In all seriousness, great art here.

Such intricate weirdness...I recall reading about this critter in a short-story anthology back in the day, but never stumbled across another word about it since.

That said, the shortened neck makes a bit more sense for a compact fast-mover like this, and the gold head makes for yet another interesting color contrast.

Thanks! I rather like the gold head against the duller brown, myself.

He is weird, but a neat beast. I only know about it from my much loved monster book. I never got to read those short stories. >_<

Nee hee hee, the questing beast. That's a monster from King Arthur's stories, if I am not mistaken. You did a wonderful rendition of it.

Thank you!

I believe it is from Arthurian legend. It's also known as the Blatant Beast. Some versions are bright white with green eyes.

I know way to much about this....
