Description My own personal chapter.

The Guard Dogs space marine chapter, is unique among other chapters being one of the most friendly chapter to appear in the grim darkness of the 41st millennia. Even compared to the Salamanders, they are overtly friendly to the average imperial citizen even putting themselves in greater danger to save even the smallest child against some of the most dangerous foes in the imperium. They seem to show up where they are most needed forgoing all glory seeking and instead of focusing on defending the average imperial citizen regardless of occupation or class. Even after the threats to the planet has been eradicated, the Guard Dogs seem to stay for as long as necessary in order to protect the planet only to disappear back into the void to aid another planet in the even greater danger. However these actions have brought them too odds with the Inquisition, at times when the two forces have met each other it is not uncommon for the commander of the chapter to speak in harsh words to the inquisitors on world. Despite this the Guard Dogs are spoken with respect and honor, even their cousin chapters hold them in high regard and are always glad to share combat with them when they arrive.

Origins:
Not much is known of the Guard Dogs chapter, their history is a mystery to all but the Emperor of Mankind. It is unknown if they are successor chapter of one of the 20 legions of the Emperor however theories remain as to their origin. By showing their loyalty to the empire it is thought that they are possibly a successor chapter of the Ultramarines or possibly even the Dark Angels, some even believe they a lost chapter of either the Blood Angels or the Blood Ravens. Their heraldry has even caused some rumors to associate them as the successor chapter to the Space Wolves however there is very little evidence supporting this one, regardless of their heraldry. However there are other rumors far more ancient, some reports say that they have been seen since the time before the Horus Heresy, marines matching their description were reported before such times but were often written off as either of the Ultramarines or possibly the Dark Angels. Because of this some believe them to be one of the lost legions of the Emperor however when these notions are brought up the Inquisition quickly silences these talks. It is not known if this chapter is codex compliant, as they seem to arrive in great numbers on multiple different campaigns and planets at the same time bringing into question if this is in fact one of the lost legions.

Tactics:
While the Guard Dogs are formidable in standard combat befitting a space marine, they stand apart by being one of the few chapters to actively partake in space combat. Unlike their cousin chapters who's vessels sole responsibility is to transport the chapters might from planet to planet and only hold their own in space, the Guard Dogs vessels are purpose built to combat enemy fleets. Their battle barges heavily armed and armored are a difficult opponent for any xenos or heretic fleet that dares challenge the might of the imperium. And many a xenos invasion has been turned away before it even touched down on planet by a Guard Dog fleet protecting the planet below. Because of this the Guard Dogs chapter is primarily believed to be a fleet based chapter and has no set home world.

War Dogs:
Another interesting trait they share with their cousin chapter the Space Wolves, is the use of canines in battle. However instead of Thunder Wolves, the Guard Dogs take pride in producing their own special dog breed which they bring into battle. Towering over even the largest domesticated dogs in the Imperium, the Imperial Mastiffs as they are named, are gigantic mastiff like canines which always accompany a battle brother where ever they are sent. These dogs easily surpass over 500 pounds and are know to take down even the strongest of foes. After becoming a full battle brother in the eyes of the chapter, the newly christened brother chooses a pup to raise, he is expected to train and care for the pup all its life, which can be several decades (some have been rumored to live for hundreds of years). Should the dog is killed in battle, the chapter and the dogs' master hold a vigil over the lost dog and the space marine will enter a mourning period before raising another pup. The reason for this is these dogs are not just weapons to be used on the battlefield, but trusted companions and fellow brothers and sisters in the eyes of the chapter and a marine may confide in the dog more than anyone else, even the chaplains. The Mastiffs are also very kind and gentle, when trained properly by the marine, and it's not uncommon to see one of the gigantic dogs laying down letting children play on them with utter enjoyment.

Recruitment:
As being more secretive than even the Dark Angels, little is known about the Guard Dogs methods of recruitment. However many an imperial citizen has reportedly seen chaplains in the armor of this chapter approaching young citizens on many different planets who show remarkable strength in defense of others. It is then believe that the main trade that the Guard Dogs look for in possible neophytes is that of pure selflessness and loyalty to their fellow Imperial citizen.

Ancient Armor and vehicles:
Unlike other chapters, the Guard Dogs unusually field their warriors in ancient armor. Some even dating back to the 30th millennia. In fact the Lord Commander of the entire chapter is know to wear Cataphractii pattern terminator armor which dates back to before the Great Crusade. The chapter is also known to field a wide assortment of vehicles, surprisingly the chapter also holds, among more modern vehicles, ancient battle tanks and aircraft used by the astartes legions such as the Fellblade Super-Heavy tank and Stormbird Gunship which also leads back to the theory that they are a one of the lost legions of Astartes.
