This image is seductively, for a lack of a better term, raw. (har har har) There are so many different interpretations you could use. The meat looks almost comical. My dog had one of those squeaky toys with the same colors and shape. When I look at the table, by the time I get to the very front end, I have forgotten that the red is wine, and not blood. The lack of utensils gives this painting the look of being a table for giants or some unsightly creature - and that sorta contradicts the wine gobblets.

Really I don't think realism should be your "thing"... because those steaks fit in so perfectly with everything, any other idea wouldn't have made this painting to damn perfect.
And I dunno about the swastika - I mean..I can see where that person is coming from, but I think it's sort of a stretch.
But the freud comment made me think about slips....as in...excuse me, Ryan, but your slip is showing.
Hmm. Or I guess it could be the beer.
We'll blame it on the beer.
And since we've talked about this wonderful image so much..I'm gonna fave it. Mostly because I love those fuckkin steaks. Keep that up.

You're dead on about the steaks. Since i'm not that great at realism yet, I decided to make the steaks look like how they are shown in cartoons (old Loony Toons, Bugs Bunny, etc.).
Also, a while back I emailed a picture of this to a friend of mine and he remarked that the steaks are arranged in a swastika-type arrangement. This really blew my mind, because I didn't intend to do that. Perhaps a subconcious thing or a Freudian-slip? Hah, now you'll think i'm a nazi!
