Description

So here's my latest design - the 'Lakota Class' Starfleet heavy destroyer. Designed to be a smaller version of the Sovereign class (approximately 500m long) but cheaper to manufacture and packing just as big a punch. Equipped with type XVI phasers, quantum torpedoes and Slipstream drive.

Design notes: This design is heavily based upon a concept sketch from the great John Eaves , which would later be coined as the 'Eaves class starship'. Using this as a basic template, I added similar modifications that Eaves added to the Excelsior class to turn it into the Enterprise-B (the flared secondary hull, modular impulse engines and warp fins). The elements have been updated to make the vessel look more contemporary. As the ship is equipped with a Quantum Slipstream Drive, I have added Slipstream sensors, much like those of the USS Dauntless, (NX-01-A) which are the small glowing protrusions on the aft of the secondary hull. I named the ship after the infamous USS Lakota, which featured in DS9's fourth season episode, 'Paradise Lost'.

Howly, very nice!

I don't like the modifications Eaves did on the Excelsior, but on your design they look very good, they fit in much more organically.

Thanks Rekkert! I wanted to take those Excelsior-B mods and turn them into a ship in it's own right. I'm glad you think it looks good.

This This is excellent work! (as always.)  I like the retro look of the nacelles, they have that streamlined Art Deco locomotive look to them.  And the deflector has the inclusion of the engineering hull similar to Vektor's Magellanic Enterprise, which is a detail that I like.

Will this end up on the Warehouse soon?

 Nice!

Though not a possibility, I honestly would imagine they wouldn't reuse the Excelsior class's registry. Oh, and it should be NX/NCC-42768-A, not B. Being a Heavy Destroyer makes her a descendent of the Detroyat class I guess.

Blast! You're right about that registration!! Oh well, too late to change it now. Yes I believe the Detroyat was a destroyer too.

We'll, I guess we'll just have to pretend the B is an A.
