The Guardians Chapter is a (homebrew) Second Founding chapter formed from the 1st Company of the 1st Battalion of the 13th Chapter of the Ultramarines Legion.
The Astartes who eventually formed the Guardians Chapter were battle-hardened and experienced warriors, the 1st Company having fought throughout the whole length of the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy, with some of the Marines in their dreadnoughts having fought since the Unification Wars.
Like the Ultramarines they are descended from, the Guardians are generalist combatants, harboring skill in any form of combat or warfare needed to defeat the enemies of the Imperium. Their tactical flexibility is valued trait, allowing them to adapt any situation and overcome any opposition. No form of warfare or method of defeating the enemy is unknown to them, and the Guardians will use any and all of them to their advantage.
Their true strength however, lies in their skill in combined arms and joint operations. Time and time again, the ability to coordinate and properly fight alongside the armies of the Imperium has blessed the chapter and the Imperium with victory after victory against the greatest of foes. The Guardians know that the Imperium cannot stand divided, and that unity is its greatest strength. They will fight alongside anyone whose loyalty belongs to the Emperor, from the numberless legions of Guardsmen, the fanatical Sisters of Battle, the eccentric Adeptus Mechanicus, the Imperial Navy, their elite and varied fellow Marines, and even the secretive ranks of the Imperial Inquisition. As a result, the Guardians are well supplied, frequently contribute to crusades and the Deathwatch, have an impressive chapter fleet, and a well fortified Chapter homeworld. Standing together with the greater Imperium, there is no enemy they cannot defeat.
The Guardians Chapter features a distinct yet unremarkable grey color scheme. Their chapter insignia is a crossed sword and Godwyn Pattern Bolter with a black casing, underneath a grey shield with a golden skull. Lower ranking battle brothers use standardized identification system. For Mk 10, 8, 7, 4 and 3 power armor, The right pauldron denotes squad number with black high gothic numeral over a white role symbol. On the left shoulder pad is a relief of the chapter symbol, though sometimes it will be merely painted on instead. Some however, even elect to leave their left pauldron blank. On the left kneepad is a symbol denoting the company. On the chestplate is a golden aquila. Mk 6 armor uses a modified marking system to account for the left pauldron's molecular bonding studs. Ornamentation is lacking on line, assault, and devastator, reserved for higher ranking Astartes who have truly earned the right to bear them. Even Sternguard veterans, Vanguard veterans, Terminators, and even some dreadnoughts lack ornamentation, typically featuring only unit identification and chapter symbols, an oddity among the Astartes. This lack of decoration was present even in their days as part of the Ultramarines legion, and persisted throughout the millennia.
