"Named after A.G. Robinson, the famed pilot of the early NX Warp 1+ ships, the USS Robinson was Starfleet's earliest experiments into transwarp technology. During her initial trial flights, the vessel did achieve transwarp speeds once, however unanticipated subspace stresses cause critical damage to the ships systems and structural integrity, so much so that the ship was deemed a total loss and was later scrapped. The lessons learned from her few flights did assiste Starfleet with their deign for the Excelsior class starship years later." - Starfleet database
