Description
The Captain of Squad 5, which runs the Maggot's Nest Prison Facility, Etsuko Akiyama was born into a wealthy family in the Rukongai (though not a noble family.) She never enjoyed being prettied up or wearing extravagant outfits, and one day when she out and about with a sister of hers, they were attacked by a group of men who wished to have their way with her. They were saved by a Shinigami, which made Etsuko decided to become a Shinigami herself, and passed in the Academy with flying colors. When she was strong enough she challenged the Captain of Squad 5 at the time, and defeated him with relative ease; killing him and taking his spot. It's a job she despises though, as she became a Captain to fight strong enemies, learning to have a thrill fighting. Etsuko eventually challenged the Captain of Squad 11, Daichi Takahashi, and came very close to killing him to take his spot; but was outsmarted by the original Captain...though was spared. Her eye was lost during The Quincy Betrayal and her body is covered in scars from all the different fights she's been in.
