Description

The painting represents Hades, the Greek underworld, specifically the river Styx as I imagine it. To my knowledge the ghosts of the dead would not speak unless they tasted blood, human or otherwise. The setting sun is behind them as they are entering the realm of darkness. You can also see the little boat of Charon in the distance. I depicted a scene where the already dead greet the newly dead, thrown into the river, wrapped like cocoons. Those that recognise their loved ones grieve; others mock them.
