I can't find any rules about how you can use this texture.

Yeah. I have a manip project in mind, which is why I got interested in resources in general. When you have it on your mind, you start to see things that might be useful to others everywhere.

Exactly my thoughts or a little tweeking to the colours and you get those fantasy barren wastelands.

The original was greenish but when I adjusted the levels it became more neutral. I presume that this would be better for users.

Yeah having the neutral colour is a great idea, it is easier to adjust if you want it a different colour. ~(at least I think it is.)
