The Golden Mean or Golden Average is a mathematically "perfect" ratio found throughout nature, its about 1.62 to 1. Things like sunflowers and spiral shells have the perfect mean in their structure. In design and art its used to create more visual interest than something that is dead center. For instance, in your picture her.....::ahem:: main attraction so to speak is situated at about the Golden Mean for the vertical measurement of the whole image. In other words, the distance from the bottom of the image to her butt is in a ratio of about 1.62 to 1 for the distance from her butt to the top of the image: Slightly off center in the Golden Mean.

It's alot more involved than what I'm able to cover here but that should give you a general idea.
