anyone who thinks this isn't art is ignorant as hell and shouldn't consider themselves artists.

FACT: everything is art. EVERYTHING. LIFE IS ART. THAT IS THE POINT OF ART IT IS THE CAPTURING OF LIFE. if you cannot see that then I FEEL VERY, VERY BAD FOR YOU.

even if this picture was pornographic, which it is not, porn itself is art. it may not be good or appropriate art for you and how you live your life, but it is still art. how dare you accuse anyone of not having talent? THAT is a matter of opinion, not fact.

Scott, I'm sorry this trash is in your comments.

Simply beautiful, I love the poses, the lighting, the models. They're both drop dead gorgeous. The room, with the colours and such, is genius. Like two sisters asking which looks better. The model nearest to the camera, I must say, I am overly jealous of her figure. Beautiful skin, and the curve to her back then her hips, and perfect legs.

Beautifully done!

Strange coincidence that they are predominantly being made by teenage girls...

The fact that it has evoked any emotion makes it art. Regardless of whether you like it or not.

hey hey now. the guy who started the argument was a 21 year old man. I wasn't being rude I just stated an opinion. so did the girl who I replied to. that's all. than i guess people get offended. like so what If I dont like this photo.

I read it as [link] starting the argument, but that's irrelevant, and not the point I made originally.

I wasn't taking exception to anything you said, you seem overly defensive on this one...

GoldManeRoyale In reply to Arena08 [2010-04-07 20:39:32 +0000 UTC]

wait what? why am I the one overly defensive when he went out of his way to defend the art against my own personal opinion?

I mean granted I was explaining my self, But who the fuck cares? that;s what people should do?

and for one thing wtf do you mean taking "exception" to anything I said?
I wasn't writing it for anyone to fucking grade it and take score. I was saying my thoughts & that's it. I don't care if people read or comment it, But
exception. I am not sure what you mean there. I gave him a note explaining, But I guess what ever. he's done with the conversation. as you can see the rest of the message is somewhere else. i think maybe if you saw teh rest of it you'd understand it wasn't defense.

I just seriously hate when people change my words.

Arena08 In reply to GoldManeRoyale [2010-04-08 00:38:21 +0000 UTC]

I say you're being overly defensive because you have found offence in my comments, which are fairly neutral.

Also: Exception, [link] ?'Idiom
5.
take exception,
a.
to make an objection; demur: They took exception to several points in the contract.
b.
to take offense: She took exception to what I said about her brother.'

You've taken exception to me stating I wasn't taking exception!

that's what you assume. i never found it offensive.

and thats not what I asked.

so why are you even getting into this convo. are you bored or something?

Wow, the comments and discussion going into this piece is fantastic. Really supportive, critical comments and critical thinking. Art is sooo hard define, yet I wouldn't go so far to say 'This photo is not art.'

There are qualities of this piece that are done well and there are qualities of this piece that leave something to be desired. I think the models are good-looking (okay, they're hawt ). On the flip-side, I agree that the composition and story aspects of the piece are not done well, but not to the point that this is not 'art.' I do like it enough to comment on it, and I think I will save it to my reference folder because I like how long the front models' leg appears.

Also, I want to reiterate that the artist chose not to have critiques for this piece yet - by leaving the comments open - it at least appears that he wanted to hear what people thought. I feel that a critique should only be given if the person receiving the critique is open to it.

To those that feel this piece is not art, I would suggest just moving on to another page/artist on dA. AND if you are particularly inclined or moved enough, then leave a comment.

The 50 1.8 gets really bad chromatic abberation in lighting conditions such as this.. I would have used a better lens and shot at iso 100. Perhaps this was a quick shot in between the actual shoot? I've seen better from you.

I don't understand how this is art... not to be rude or anything, but it's two girls semi-nude in a old room.

The lighting isn't particularly good, nor is the actual background of the photo. You've got a radiator, and and electrical pug, too much light coming from a window, and the one girl has a funky look on her face.

I'm sorry. But this is by no means (in my own opinion) a work of art. It's a picture I could have taken with my digital camera if I had two friends willing to strip and hang out in their undies in a old building.

I don't see the thought put into this. I'm not against nudity, I just think that's your entire focus on the picture, forgetting about all the other elements.

liztwirl In reply to Cassandra-Incognito [2010-04-07 16:31:06 +0000 UTC]

the thing is;
did you get some friends to strip into their undies to take a picture in an old building?
I am not one for nudes, but this one is actually good.
THE PICTURE TELLS A STORY
AND I THINK IT'S ART

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cassandra-Incognito In reply to liztwirl [2010-04-07 18:44:47 +0000 UTC]

That's perfectly fine if you believe it to be art. I was stating my own opinion. Not speaking for anyone else.

No, I haven't gotten my friends to strip into their underwear and hang out in an old building. Unless the piece was very artistically and beautifully done they would consider it degrading. Also I don't do shots with people.

iwouldratherfly In reply to Cassandra-Incognito [2010-04-07 08:32:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah? How bout this?: [link]

Not to be rude or anything, but you saw something nice looking and held your camera up and pushed a button.

You didn't even create the lighting, or the background, or anything in the picture.

I'm sorry. But this is by no means (in anyone's opinion) a work of art. It's a picture I could have taken with my digital camera if I stepped outside.

I don't see the thought put into this, period.

Get it? Fuck off, no one cares about your opinion of what art is, especially when you can't make art yourself. Yeah, people get mad that nudes get so many views just because there's butts and boobs, but that's life. These photos have as much thought put into them as the scenery you happen upon and your effortless, undetailed, overly-simplistic drawings, not to mention your contrived, shitty, teenage poetry.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cassandra-Incognito In reply to iwouldratherfly [2010-04-07 13:47:53 +0000 UTC]

No I didn't create the lighting, however I did take a photo that didn't have light blasting through a side window. I'm not a god, I can't create lighting in a outdoor space, but I can take a shot that had proper lighting. Do you even know anything about photography? You've taken outdoor photo's yourself, and I'm not going to rake on you for not creating the lighting, because I know you have no power over the sun.

I didn't create the background, or anything in the picture... no... I'm not God (or mother nature or whatever you believe in), again, thanks. I could have planted the trees though... you never know.

You are right about the thought... to a degree. I happened to have my camera when I was at the park at night, and just as the sun was setting I got a number of beautiful, and some crappy photos. I did take the time to set myself up for the photo, and I chose what to include etc. The thought put into it was picking amongst those which were decent enough to post. I wish this "artist" would have the same thought into their work.

If no one cares about anyone else's opinions... then why is there a comment section? If people didn't want to hear something they would simply turn off the option and leave it at that. I never claimed to be an artist, but I don't have to be Picasso to take a look at piece of shit and tell someone it's a piece of shit (I'm not saying his work is, I'm just saying it leaves a lot to be desired). As for my drawing. Agreed, they are shit, but I need to practice, because in the theater world I sometimes need the ability to draw basic forms/outlines in order to create costumes for shows etc. Perhaps, what your trying to tell me is that they should be in the scraps section, but then I wouldn't get comments on what to work on and improve. Because that was the intent with them, to see what people thought, and maybe get some tips.

I merely gave a critique as to why I believed the piece was not a work of art, and in turn hope that it would give the "artist" pause to reconsider which pieces to upload, perhaps uploading one because of the lighting, rather than the look of a model's ass. I don't know why you are trying to make this personal.

As for my shitty teenage poetry, please, if you want to critique me, tell why you consider it to be shitty, don't simply tell me it's shitty. That's not a critique, which is what I did. That is a hurtful comment designed to upset me. Don't be rude. I wasn't. I gave an opinion... my own, I didn't try to speak for "anyone", but myself, and I gave reasons for my opinion. You have been spiteful, and rude. And I don't appreciate it.

iwouldratherfly In reply to Cassandra-Incognito [2010-04-08 05:00:10 +0000 UTC]

You missed every single point in my comment. Wow.

The point was you have no right to criticize someone about what's "art" or not when you're guilty of the exact same thing you're criticizing them for. It's not that no one cares about anyone else's opinions, it's that this artist doesn't care about YOURS, specifically. If you were a better photographer and someone he respects/admires, then maybe he would, but your gallery has a lot less merit as "art" than his. Your defense is you need more practice. Yeah, so does he. Everyone does. Critiquing is fine, but you've got no right to get angry about it and say that it's not art. Think before you post.
