Your portraits are amazing, they look brush painted but it says digital art on the piece, what software gives you such a realistic painting finish?

All the portraits are 'paint-overs'. I know some people get a bit funny about that so I'm upfront about it

I use Painter 16 for the most part (dried ink brush) with a little photoshop at the end to tidy up

No shame in that, understanding the human faces and lighting takes years of dedicated work. Working from a good starting point just makes sense and that's exactly what i do. When i don't do it, i can tell the difference: ears are not on level or the face shape is unrealistic, etc. I can do cartoon easily, but a solid realistic portrait style still eludes me.

I do a bit of drawings for my self-produced Call of Cthulhu rpg scenarios, but it's nothing on your level. There must be a free tryout or student version of Painter i can download for free, cause now, i want to learn it.

Your characters are very inspiring, you just give them the perfect dose of caricature (10%) to make them unique and fantastic looking.

No shame here, hence the upfrontednessness

I think there may be a free trial for Painter somewhere, but I'm pretty sure that the same result can be achieved in Photoshop or ArtRage, I just settled on Painter as that's the app that I know how to use best for painting.

And thanks for the comments Marcus, much appreciated
