Hai is a man of few words who keeps to himself, one who lives a simple lifestyle and finds value in hard work and dedication to his craft. While he's a good listener and someone who is easy to rely on, sometimes he can be hard to approach or tell if he truly is listening. Most days he spends his hours checking traps, prepping lures, and fishing, not often venturing into town unless needed and rarely going out of his way to speak with others. Hai doesn't bring up much about himself and enjoys the small things in life, happy to just exist as he is. However, he does lack in the creative side of life and doesn't quite understand other people's imagination. Overall Hai is just a fisherman who wants to work and provide for those he cares for.

When around other people Hai tends to stand out due to his size at first, but quickly fades into the background as he struggles to keep up with conversation flow and ends up just letting others talk. But he is a very talented listener with the ability to quietly sit with someone talking about their own life and thoughts for hours on end, though he struggles to find ways to contribute. Due to his lack of social skills Hai can come across as uncaring and uninterested, perhaps even cold to those upon first meeting. He also doesn't like spending money, so he isn't one to enjoy lavish things in life.

*History:
I'm not really one to... open up to ohers about my life as there isn't much to even say. My town is small and it rained most days, though I didn't mind since it was very refreshing and brought in good catches. Mother and father both worked the docks as fishers and while my sister moved to the larger city to pursue writing, I stayed to learn the trade. There's nothing quite as... calming as the sea at night. I spent most of my life near and on the water, it still has much to teach me and I wish to learn. As I got older my parents did send me to classes so I could learn to manage our logs and local requests and orders but I'm not one for acedemics. Hands on work is more grounding for me. But I can't lie, I did want to learn more about the other coasts and when the chance to travel to an unexplored coast I certainly considered it.
When I did decide to travel, it was more to support my family as the pay for exotic sealife was high in demand. My background in fishing seemed enough to qualify me for the trip and soon enough I was on my way. I did not bring my fishing birds as the travel would stress them, but I am sure I will learn a new style to adapt in this new land. So far it has made for an interesting trip.

Full History:
Born in Ekialdean on the rainy coast in a small village, Hai Mey was the youngest child to his elven parents. Both were born to fishing families and as such it was only natural that they passed that family tradition onto their children, though it was only Hai who truly embraced it. His older sister, when he was a young teen, went to the city to pursue a writing career. As a child he was raised to not be afraid of the water but to respect it and has carried that into adulthood. Not afraid of getting dirty he played in the waters and dug up clams and worms, learned how to string rods and hook bait. Much of his childhood was spent working and that didn't change as he got older although contrary to burning out, it seemed that hard work calmed and grounded him. As he grew his parents did send him to the local school to learn the basics so that he was able to manage the logs for their fishery and take that knowledge with him for his own business.

As he grew up the man seemed to grow larger, his stature made him intimidating to the locals and he ended up reclusing slightly as people became uncomfortable around him- the quiet demeanor and hulking frame scared locals. So fishing took up his waking hours as it made him feel comfort and connection to the large open waters, vast and unexplored and beautiful. The family tradition of working with cormorant birds to catch fish was something he picked up in his teens and while he enjoyed it he also began focusing more on tidepool collection, catching everything from clams and muscles to octopi and urchins, things not commonly caught in that area. As he grew older and refined his work he gained a bit of a reputation, picking up the nickname "Guī" for his tough looking exterior and shielded manner. It stuck, everyone from the villiage children to the elders starting to use it- mind you it didn't truly bother Hai, but it did make him aware of how he was seen by others.

When he recieved word of the need for working individuals to come to a new island called Umeojin, the idea tempted him. A place to see a new area of the waters, find new creatures, and further his craft? It was exciting. Hai Mey approached his family about it, ever one to be loyal to them as he explained he was going to travel and send back his earning to help support them. It went down well and soon enough he was off to Umeojin.

*Reason for Boarding:
I wanted to see the ocean from another point, maybe even find something new... along the way I hope to send my support back to my family so they can live comfortably.
