He loves her.
She loves his brother.
He's trying to get her to fall in love with him.
She thinks otherwise.
He keeps trying.
She's now lying to herself.
Hey, that's life.

Rukia Kuchiki had always enjoyed music. But not just any recent music
that would replay on the radio every morning, but the oldies. She
loved listening to the classics. In fact, she had a whole collection
of records from the past. Her favorites, were in fact, The Beach Boys,
The Beatles, and the Jersey Boys.

Finally, winter break. Rukia had the time to visit her only family,
her brother-in-law, Byakuya Kuchiki. She packed some of her belongings
in a backpack, and strode off in her car. She hasn't used this truck
for awhile, and once she put the key in the ignition, memories flowed
through her head. This car was so special to her...it was her
sister's, Hisana.
It was about a two-hour drive to Byakuya's mansion, and Rukia was
supplied with a bag of potato chips and a bottle of Coke.
Ichigo had invited her to celebrate Christmas with his family, and as
much as Rukia wanted to say yes, she declined, briefly explaining
Byakuya would be lonely.
She drove alone the hilly road, adjusting the volume for her CD.
"Woahhh. 80's music?"
The voice startled her, as she looked to the backseat. Him again?
"What the hell? How'd you get in here?!"
"Very carefully." he answered, sitting up front now.
"You like this kind of music?" he asked.
She didn't answer.
"You might as well wear a pair of rollerblades and work at Johnny
Rockets!" he teased.
She wasn't amused. "You know, I'll just drop you off at a bus station,
you get your own money and pay to get back to the university."
"What if I don't have money?"
"You should. Your dad's a doctor, eh? You should have lotsa money,
considering what you wear all the time."
"Izzat supposed to be a compliment?" he asked.
She scowled.

Suddenly, after mid silence, a Jersey Boys song came on. Instead of
hearing the name Sharie, Hollow replaced the name with Rukia, and sang
with the song. "Ruki-a, Ruki-babyyyy."
"You listen to the Jersey Boys?" the raven-haired girl asked, surprised.
"My mother used to play their hit records when I was younger." he
murmured.
"Oh."

Cricket, cricket.

She sighed. "Well, I can't really leave you out on the streets. Nii-
sama...would get upset."
Hollow raised an eyebrow.
"You better use your best manners, one mistake, and Nii-sama will kick
you out." she warned to him, as she parked the car. Drops of rain
began to fall from the gray mist of clouds. She gathered her backpack
and told him to wait behind her, as she rung the bell. Her heart beat
faster.
"Rukia-chan! It's a pleasure to have you here!"
"Hanatarou? You work for Nii-sama?" Rukia asked, shocked.
"Yeah...I got fired from my job at the pharmacy/market. But atleast
here, I get payed more!" he smiled.
"That's great! Good for you." she replied, "Uhm...if Nii-sama doesn't
mind...I have company with me."
Hanatarou gazed up at the tall gentleman, and had shivers go down his
spine. His eyes...his smile...his pale skin, was just too scary for him.
"Ah, well, come in! Come in!" Hanatarou grabbed her backpack and led
her to the living room. "I'll get your brother in a second."
"Thanks."
Just as Hanatarou left the room, Rukia narrowed her eyes at Hollow.
"Nii-sama's gonna think something is fishy, so say a word, you're
gonna lose a leg, 'kay?"
"Feisty."
"Shut up." Rukia whispered loudly as she saw Byakuya Kuchiki come into
the room. "Hello Nii-sama."
"Hello, Rukia." he greeted. He noticed the white spiky-haired man
behind her and scowled.
"Ah, Nii-sama! This is my friend Hollow, he, uhh, he's a hitch hiker!
And he had no money...so er, I couldn't just leave him out there in
the rain!"
He stayed silent, for a minute or so. "...indeed...it is rather,
pouring outside."
"So, is it okay with you, Nii-sama, that Hollow can stay in your
beloved home?"
"...just as long as he doesn't trash the place..." he was
suspicious of Hollow and Rukia, but he didn't say a word, as he left
the two.

"Why are you even here? Shouldn't you be going with Ichigo to Isshin,
Yuzu, and Karin?" Rukia asked as she unpacked her clothes onto her bed
in a large room Byakuya gave her for the meantime.
"No, unlike Ichigo, I don't stay in touch with my family, that is the
only reason I went to a college with dorms." he replied.
"Huh? Then what about Ichigo?"
"He still acommpanies our family.. He only went to this college to
learn to become a doctor, and take up Dad's dream."
"Oh..." Rukia stuffed her clothes in the empty wooden drawer. "What
about you?"
"What about me?"
"What are you planning to be?" Rukia asked, restating her question.
"I'm not very interested with techy equipment, but photography amuses
me."
"But won't you be wasting your grades in just being a photographer?
You're top of the class for every subject you take, and you're just
going to be a photographer?"
"Yes."
Rukia thought he was insane.
"What about you? What courses?"
"I'm taking some simple classes, I'm not trying to be anything
important, either. My dream was to be an artist."
"Really?"
"Yeah, I enjoy painting."
"Oh."
This was pretty much the longest human-conversation Rukia had with
Hollow. They understood each other's goals in life, and she thought he
was something more than a sweet-talking pervert who would stalk any
girl on the planet just for a cell phone number.

Unlike Rukia's bedroom, Byakuya gave Hollow a small room filled with
old antiques, otherwise, a shed outside the house. It was in the
backyard, and if Hollow broke anything, Byakuya swore he would kick
him out of the streets. Rukia was right.
