Description: The giraffe-necked camel is a species of a camel that lives on the Great Australian Plain, eating the leaves of the tops of trees. This camel lives similarly to the giraffes that were alive 50 million years ago. These camels originally were not native to the island, being introduced by humans 40 million years ago. However, over time, the camels integrated into the ecosystem and other animals evolved around them.
The giraffe-necked camel is brown in color all over its body. It has a long neck which it uses with its long legs to reach the top of trees. Its tall height also helps it not to get bitten in the neck or head. Its long legs are used to kick away predators that are attacking it, sometimes these kicks are fatal. Its feet help the camel spread out its weight so it can travel across the sandiest areas.
These camels have an interesting breeding behavior. The male camels will fight by both headbutts and kicks. These fights can last over an hour if two camels that are big and tough. The male who doesn’t back down is the winner and the other one is the loser. The camel that won will be able to breed with the females in the area and past on its genes.
