Thank you very much! I have a tendency to try and create paintings using as little colours as possible. I think I find it challenging (also exasperating. ).

Yeah that is sure a challenge but you should always strive to become better so that's good!

Thank you! I've always stuck to minimal colours in my paintings, but this was a particularly interesting experience. I'd never tried all black before. I'm glad you liked it!

We officially moved in yesterday but we still have stuff to move from the old house. But we've moved most of our things. Very knackering because we're doing it all ourselves! We'll be ringing our broadband provider this afternoon so changing it to our new address might take a few weeks. So this will be my last update for a while!

Thank you, Amber! I think I'll be painting another version of this soon, but this was a good study for me. I'm slowly working myself up to try painting figures (I find it all a little frightening! ).

I think we all find figures a little daunting at times. But it is very well done. I thought it was a photograph. you have such amazing control of water colors. Its very stunning. And your welcome for the fav!

Every artist is their worst critic. We see what we feel are flaws. But most people normally find those flaws the best part of the work.

ScribalWriter In reply to BellaFuoco [2012-02-16 21:14:33 +0000 UTC]

That's true, and especially since the artist knows what the image should look like. But thanks again for all the support.

Thanks very much, Sam! I'm still not loving it (I think because solely having black on the watercolour paper makes it look a bit dirty in some places), but I'm pleased with how it turned out. I may try another version soon though.

I hope you've had an excellent Valentines Day so far!

Thanks, Allan! It was a bit of a study, seeing as I've never really attempted to paint figures of any kind before. I don't love the final result, but I'm pleased with it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

A-D-McGowan In reply to ScribalWriter [2012-02-15 07:38:29 +0000 UTC]

You are most welcome!

I can sympathize with your feeling of not loving the final result, I barely tolerate most of my own work, somehow settling on an uneasy truce with a my art...upon completing a work that displeases me for one reason or another, I stare at the work and say to it, "I won't call you a complete failure, Painting, if you don't call me a complete failure. Are we in agreement, Painting?" To which my painting always waits slightly longer than I'd like before replying, "Agreed, Artist. Now place me in soft sunlight, and show off my good side." To which I reply, "I thought the light was quite nice inside the closet, Painting. Perhaps you might enjoy it in there?"

Ah, yes, the demented relationship between and an artist and art!

ScribalWriter In reply to A-D-McGowan [2012-02-16 00:56:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes, that's it exactly. Ah, the things we put ourselves through. Sometimes I wonder why. And then I begin to paint again and remember, "Oh, it's because of this." I shouldn't be surprise, seeing as the same happens with my writing. I suppose it might even be a good thing. It pushes me harder every time I paint.

Thank you. It's very hard not to love babies! This one didn't turn out quite as I wanted, but I'm still pleased. The idea is there, and it's the first time ever attempting to paint hands (or feet) in watercolour. Still a ways to go, but I think it's a decent first try. Plus, those are my nephew's feet; how can I not love them? ^__^

Thank you. When I decided to paint something for Valentine's Day, this was the first thing I thought of. The shape worked so well, and the image itself was very fitting. Plus, it was a nice practice for trying something new (I generally stay away from figures in my painting). Thanks so much for the kind words! I only wish the scan turned out a little better. I always find, unfortunately, that watercolour paper doesn't scan all that well.

It's really lovely. I thought at first glance that it might be a photo-manipulation until I opened it...then I thought that it might be graphite pencils...I had not even considered water colour until you mentioned it in your description. The technique you have used is very subtle...usually with water colour one can see where the different layers stop and start...you have blended all the shading wonderfully. Very nicely done!

Thank you again, especially for such a wonderful, though-out comment. I still almost feel as though it could use a little more darkness on the fingers, but I'm weary of making them too dark, especially when I want that contrast from the background. But I suppose it's hard to ever feel like a piece is a hundred percent completed.
I'm glad you like it. It makes me feel much better about the piece.

Aww, thank you again! That means a lot. I've really come to love that style - and patchwork quilts were exactly what I wanted them to resemble! I'm glad that succeeded. I will be coming back to that style again in the future.
