Her fist looks so lifelike, I'm fighting the urge to...hang on...yes I just scrolled up to the top of the page to tap my fist to Cassandra's. Don't judge me...

Well, there's a couple places where I can still see the brush edge, but its cool, don't worry about it.

I will worry about it. I want to get better. not worse. I think the challenge in this illustration is that I went from pencils to colour. I think If I had inked it I would have gotten a cleaner results I guess there's not a whole lot I can do now but to keep in mind that it's better to ink my stuff before colouring it

Nonono. Its fine that way. And in fact, I think that some pencilings with colors look better than ink. Ink just makes it easier to color. Now, the shading near the bottom of the cape where its a larger area still has some clear brush strokes in it. You'll notice if you look at it. But other than that its good!

Okay, you love to hear my comments so here they are. The coloring isn't half bad because I can see some improvement but you could have given the illusion of her suit looking more shiney by adding a few more brighter highlites. You're still learning so I'll let that slide.

I think this piece would have been even more mesmerizing if it was inked. It would have looked more finished.

So, I told you before that I loved the image and my feelings for it still remain the same. Good job my brother.

No your 100 percent currect on this issue. I wish I had inked it myself before colouring it. It would have made the peice that much cleaner and that much easier to look at. Then just going striaght to the colours and having it look the way it does now. I was thinking about that half way though collouring it. It was rather messy when first tackling it. grrr. I'll now for sure for next time though. as for the 8th layer. I was going to put some lighting it it but Andrea thought it would have just look to tacky. don't matter. to me it still looks incomplete. well no point wining over it now. what is done. is done. time to move on to the next peice

not too shabby, the perspective is very exagerated, which works for this piece, however the barbra gorden version would've been better...

No worries. I've been an advent reader of Batman comics since the early ninties and the history of the characters. enough to hold a good arguement. so I look forward to our discussion

Thats pretty nice dude. Honestly tho, you could have done more with the cape.

thanks, your probably very right on that. what would have you done differently if you don't mind me asking? you are talking about the colouring? or the pencils?

Quwaar In reply to scribblesartist [2006-05-17 08:01:13 +0000 UTC]

I would prolly have streched the shadow to the tip of the cape. And put a layer of highlight on it too.

scribblesartist In reply to Quwaar [2006-05-17 14:23:12 +0000 UTC]

really. not to defend what I did. but i tryed that I feel that it took away from the detial from the character. because I found that there was alot of shadow sources on the figure it self. putting thoughs highlights on the cape would have drowned the character out a little. I figured doing that it would have made batgirl POP a litle more. but since you mention it now I thinking it makes the peice a little incomplete. thanks for your kind words. stop by agian sometime.

Quwaar In reply to scribblesartist [2006-05-17 16:47:45 +0000 UTC]

mmm, well you got a point. I myself just colour characters to the same detail everywhere. But if it gets really close, or far away I tend to use an extra layer of shade or light.

scribblesartist In reply to Quwaar [2006-05-17 17:17:52 +0000 UTC]

very correct. I was going to add another layer of lighting but it didn't look right. but since I very new to the medium of comic book colouring i tend to try to take in as much as I possibly can. I still clueless on how to aplly filters, textures and I candy. right now I'm only concerned about making the image beleieable. shadows, lighting and shading. if you have any tips for a rookie. I'm all ears. thanks agian Quwaar

For textures see this site:[link] It has everything

And on filters in Photoshop itself... Well, use them is all I can say Experiment
