Years ago, I had the privilege of watching the movie "the Elephant Man." Years later, I was thinking about Joseph Carey Merrick... and wanted to draw him.

I had an idea of how to capture his character, yet it wasn't full realized in this drawing.
I wanted more emphasis on the tea cup... to symbolize Merrick's inner character. His face, and deformity was to be second to that aspect... but I wasn't quite able to achieve what I wanted.

Regardless, after a couple hours work, I decided that it was enough to share. In the future, I would still desire to give a proper and honoring portrait of this man. Perhaps I will gain the skill to achieve my idea someday.
