Description taken August 1,2006

We've had some amazing flooding down here in El Paso, TX and of course I had to get out there and take some photos. This was the photo of a car near my house that was swept away and then buried in a sinkhole from a burst arroyo ( natural drainage ditch). The whole street was eventually destroyed by flood waters and more rain is in the forecast...

I have some more shots here: Flood Destruction
I won't flood dA with all of them at once (no pun intended).

This is why I'm happy it doesn't rain alot out here.

Awesome picture, I would be doing the same as you, going out just to get some good shots of such a thing.

Yeah it's taken forever to fix some of the things here, although I don't think they projected 3 years!! (although knowing our city gov..hehe). And I think the gas lid was pushed open by the force of the water .

No luckily it was parked in the parking lot and was swept away from there. There was one woman washed down the street but somehow she came out unscathed.

I like how in the background there's another person with a camera surveying the damage. Strikes me as amusing somehow.

yikes...that poor car.
I've been amazed with all the rain lately around here. Luckily Las Cruces isn't having flooding like that.
Hope you're in an area where it's not so bad

It's been odd hasn't it! I heard Cruces got quite a bit last night, but it didn't seem too critical yet . Of course the newscasters are getting a bit overly dramatic about everything now! .

Definately, I like rainy days alot, but if it started flooding in this area I don't know what I'd do
Yeah, newscasters...anything to keep you glued to the screen

Poor little punch bug

On the art side, the photos are wonderful photojournalism. But the flooding looks horrific over there. It seems that's all we've been hearing about in the States these last few weeks weather-wise. I hope you are well and the rain lets up soon.

Unfortunately we're on our 9th consecutive day of rain now .

Terrible to see stuff (natural disasters and all) happen. You feel ofr the people yet pictures like this also has lots of humor buried in them.

Scully7491 In reply to rhisiart22 [2006-08-05 05:08:37 +0000 UTC]

I agree! I kind of felt bad that everyone was taking photos of it while the owner was standing off to the side looking distraught. And yet....perfect photo op!

rhisiart22 In reply to Scully7491 [2006-08-06 00:17:22 +0000 UTC]

On a lighter note. I thought things were always bigger in Texas. We have sinkholes around here that swallow dump trucks, buses, and even buildings in one gulp.
