Description Cameras! Old ones! Polaroids! These keep turning up at thrift stores and estate sales! Friggin awesome right? I'll be posting some photos from time to time... for filler... or something...

Took this with my homemade hacked 1960's J66 modified to take pack film (Fuji fp-3000b).

That's a nice little collection. I have to say, I'm a little jealous of that SLR 680 up in the corner, I've been looking for one for a while.

And unlike other obsessions / collections, it's dirt cheap. Personally, I tend to gravitate towards turn-of-the-century to 1940s Kodak Brownies. Hell, I've gotten them for as little as $5 to as much as $50 for the rarer art deco models. I think I'm up to around 50 of them...and best of all, they all work.

Definitely don't build anything like that anymore. My roll film Polaroids weigh almost 5 lbs each and can be used for demolition!!

I've got a few that exceed 100 years old, but as far as "they don't build'em like that anymore" is concerned I often forget that most early ones were nothing more than leatherette covered cardboard and (later) stamped tin...not exactly something you could drive nails with. By and large they are considered to be Kodak's version of Henry Ford's Model T...cheaply mass-produced and (more importantly) affordable to the masses. So many were produced that, well, 100 years later you can still get'em for next to nothing.

I've got 3 old Polaroid cameras too, an old Polaroid Land Camera Model 95A (with Flash Unit) in pretty decent condition considering it's age, and a Polaroid Land Camera Automatic 100 not in the best shape, basement flooded and the bottom got wet and corroded a little (got a flash unit for it floating around somewhere too), and an old Polaroid One Step Instant (with an Alfon PR-50/A Flash unit, not in the best of condition though).

I plan to, I actually have a few sealed rolls of film for the 95A (probably not good anymore just due to their age though) and half a dozen flash bulbs too, unfortunately the flash unit uses a really odd size battery (not available anymore) and an odd capacitor (which may or may not need replacing, not sure).

You never know... I've used quite a few that have still worked. One way to check is when you open the roll from the foil and look at the reagent pods that are peeking through the "positive" side of the rolls. Look for what looks like corrosion or salty looking deposits. If there are none then the film is probably still good! As for the battery, the older model flashes like that on the 95 either take an Eveready 505 22.5V. You can still get them on that auction website that has take all my money recently! The capacitor doesn't need to be changed. I love using these flashes. It blinds everyone in the room!

Cool, thanks for the heads up about the film and the batteries, once I get my account on 'that auction website' out of the red (they're being jerks and not letting me transfer funds INTO the account in order to bring it current even), maybe I can see about getting a couple batteries and taking some pictures with it.
