Description It's been nearly ten years since I began drawing gruesome little battle-monsters for a world I'd eventually name Mortasheen, and after nearly a solid year of mostly secret development, the Mortasheen concept will finally metamorphose into something more tangible for people to enjoy.

Within the coming weeks, the independent game publisher Cat Powered Raygun will be releasing a downloadable Ebook containing everything you need to play an all-new, original pen and paper roleplaying game set in the Mortasheen world, including exclusive artwork and in-depth background information on dozens of characters, environments and phenomenon I've never before revealed!

Even non-gamers might enjoy learning the strange ecology of Mortasheen city's many different environments, the various races who engineer and train Mortasheen monsters, and the many outrageous ways normal humans have struggled to adapt in a world where garbage tries to eat you...including one so threatening it may finally unite the lawless city's mad inhabitants under a common goal.

Actual release date, cost and more teaser details to follow!

So I've been looking everywhere for this but can't find anything. Is there a preview ruleset or even release date available? Any other status beyond 'It's coming'?

I have been following this rpg for some time and I must say. I love, love, love, LOVE the entire world of Mortasheen. I love the concept of Pocket Monsters actually acting like real horror monsters and the use of a more scientific approach to explaining the world it's set in. Is there any information on the release date? Also what were your inspirations for Mortasheen? I get a feeling of it being a mixture of PokΓ©mon and Tim Burton.

It's coming very very close now, too, I'll likely know a release date by the year's end to announce! Not 100% certain, though, never know what'll come up in the meantime, but it's been coming along smoothly and steadily!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

scythemantis In reply to Skullma [2013-05-11 14:55:08 +0000 UTC]

In the RPG it'll be almost unlimited, you fight with one at a time until you lose the battle by getting hit yourself, as I recall

Though I generally think of ten monsters as the average

I never did learn: do Mortasheen monsters kill each other in the arena, or do they just injure/incapacitate each other?

I'm rather curious as to what the core mechanic is. Is it a d20 roll over system? A 2d6 roll under system? A dice pool success system? A 5 Rings style roll-keep system? Is it a diceless system? Has the system even been decided yet? SYSTEM!!! System no longer looks like a word.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

scythemantis In reply to House-Lyrander [2012-02-03 22:18:13 +0000 UTC]

Another set of people developed that, it's a totally original system but does use dice

hey, do we create our own monsters from the start, or do we go around mortasheen, encountering them and befriending them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

scythemantis In reply to Rippershadow6116 [2011-12-17 17:43:21 +0000 UTC]

You have to clone monsters you've gotten samples from

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

jaredludy15 In reply to scythemantis [2012-08-26 21:00:08 +0000 UTC]

how does that work? does your monster battle another monster until it's weak enough and then rather than "Catching them in a pokeball" you take a DNA sample and clone it? wouldn't bird monsters be resistant to cloning like real birds are?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

scythemantis In reply to jaredludy15 [2012-08-27 17:27:31 +0000 UTC]

No, you scrape up organs, blood and tissues after the battle

Nothing is resistant to cloning in the Mortasheen world, genetic technology makes everything imaginable. They usually aren't exact clones, though, more like "offspring," slightly variable from the original.

Rippershadow6116 In reply to scythemantis [2011-12-17 21:06:43 +0000 UTC]

and do you get these samples willingly, or do you have fight and possibly die for them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

scythemantis In reply to Rippershadow6116 [2011-12-18 12:13:00 +0000 UTC]

You fight!

Dying is difficult, though. Most people keep back-up clones or a means of transmitting their mind back home in case it happens.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rippershadow6116 In reply to scythemantis [2011-12-18 14:39:34 +0000 UTC]

also, for those monsters that are partially inorganic, such as the abioza class or z series, do they come out with all their inorganic bits or do you have to provide them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

scythemantis In reply to Rippershadow6116 [2011-12-18 16:25:07 +0000 UTC]

They just need raw materials like metals and minerals while forming.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Rippershadow6116 In reply to scythemantis [2011-12-18 18:18:42 +0000 UTC]

finally, can you get all of the monsters by cloning? because if I recall correctly, some have impenetrable skin.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

scythemantis In reply to Rippershadow6116 [2011-12-18 19:37:40 +0000 UTC]

The whole point is you can get absolutely any monster. I don't think I mentioned anything as having 100% impenetrable skin, anything can be destroyed by something or other

Neat.I can also picture a stingray vampire swimming over prey and sucking its blood and acting like a flat parasite.I can also picture some sort of more lamprey like mouth.Though the idea of it swimming under prey and flipping its stinger out underneath to suck blood I find the coolest.

Hey, that includes me! Never played a pen and paper game in my life, and I don't really want to. But more information about the crazy Mortasheen universe you've shared with us? That sounds fantastic! I'm the kind of guy who loves the technical details. If there's ever a Mortasheen Encyclopedia, I'll read it cover to cover.
