Description
Day 5 of 10 days of ocean/seascape photography to commemorate the official end of summer!This photo features the neighborhood of Katajonakka in Helsinki, Finland. You can see the Finnair Skywheel that overlooks the harbor and the city (you can opt for a VIP package that actually lets you sip wine in there, with their leather seats and air conditioned rooms). This port is where many ferries and cruises depart and arrive from Estonia and Sweden, and a few places in Finland. Unfortunately our cruise didn't dock here as we thought it would, so it took us almost an hour to walk here since we wanted to take the ferry to the Soumenlinna fortress!

Thanks! It's a view of just the ferris wheel overlooking the harbor, and there are no other rides there. It would be pretty fun if they built a full amusement park there though!

Nice traveling back in time to get a black and white picture. How was it and where did you get the technology? The ferris wheel has a nice curved contrast against the sky that looks cool compared to the more sharp edges of the other architecture and ships. The bright highlights in the sky look lovely with the darker gray tones as well! When did you get back to the present?

Buhuhuuu, you're not going to comment on the crisp clean linework and varying lineweight? The dynamic poses, the use of complimentary colors to draw the eyes to the center, the realistic hair flow, and the subtle shading and perfect clothing folds that help give form? I totes drew all of that in this picture! Totes! I went back in time with Catbus to perfect my skills at these arts so I can become the greatest buttergami in all the galaxy. Buttergami can traverse time and dimension, for that is the power of the butter.
And this picture doth pleases me because all I had to do is click the black and white button and then the vacation cellphone photo taken on a boat jammed with tourists instantly turned into art! Art I say! All the highlights and tones and emphasis of architecture are most definitely intentional! Definitely!

Thanks! I don't have many of them but the few that I do, I really enjoy as well. Colored photos are nice, but the black and white ones really help emphasize certain things better and have a different feel!

Thanks! I ended up going for black and white since most of the picture was pretty gray anyways- including the water since it was so overcast! Since the water wasn't particularly impressive nor were the buildings colorful, might as well emphasize the contrast of the ferris wheel against the sky!

That's nice! Well the B/W works perfectly here, so I think you did a great choice about this picture.
The ferris wheel does stand out more without colors to distract from it.

Thanks! The one thing that I did like for the colored version was that the ferris wheel looked great with little translucent blue windows against the sky (most of the ferris wheels I've been on don't have any windows and is more like a cage), but other than that, I'm happy I went with the black and white filter! I think this is my first full black and white photo I've posted on dA actually...
And I'm glad my letter arrived intact! And no worries, no rush at all! Mine certainly was sent out much later than anticipated haha! Take all the time you need. I know that you've had quite a busy month, and the holiday season is already creeping back up on us too!
