sorry for the delayed response. I just received a text from my sister saying she isn't sure which character means what. Together they symbolize 'drop dead' 
using babelfish I was able to find the character on her right hand as the simplified Chinese character for 'dead'. One might be able to see the other character, the one I think you were referring to, in the Japanese kanji for 'drop'. I don't know if the difference may be tied to 'font' or if it is a stretch to see the similarities.
