Description A tree's heart beats to the rise and set of the sun
she draws breath from the day
and when that is done,
sheds her green garments at night
to sleep bare and deeply
in the frozen rustle
of subtle slumber

does she dream
in her january coma,
wonder whose claws
shake the snow off her limbs?

in the melting morning
she awakes to blades of grass
shedding wet pearls of light,
while the distance between breaths
swells and recedes
her seeds and leaves ripen
to tear off again at night.
