I AM FINALLY GETTING SHERRY PREMIUM!

The first of all my Obers to reach this milestone, and she honestly had reached the required points AGES ago but i have procrastinated and that had to stop.

They had been brought to the starting point for their journey late the day before, the transport and accommodation for the night had been kindly arranged for them both. Cavan had wanted to get as much riding done during the first day as possible and hoped for an early start rather than driving and starting later in the day. He did not relish the idea of too many nights out in the freezing temperatures. It had felt cold enough at Imperials but he had been assured that those temperatures would be mild compared to what he would feel in the mountains. Thankfully Grace and Nora had helped him get fitted out in suitable gear, but no matter how warm his clothes, the cold was impossibly to escape. Sherry had settled much better into the early winter temperatures than he had. The bay mare had been stomping around all morning while he went over their gear, impatient to be out and moving through the mountains. It made Cavan wonder how much she remembered of her youth. He had the feeling she would fare far better with the ride than he would.

It was a feeling that seemed to ring true as soon as they rode out into the cool blue dawn. Sherry made her way quickly, but carefully, down the road a way before they turned off and stared at the fresh snow covered slopes. The mountains seemed vast and empty to Cavan. They had so little with them, and just a map and a GPS to lead them to the tiny cabin that was their destination. It was daunting and he resisted the thought that he could just call it all off. It would be easier and far more comfortable, but he wanted to get his mare recognised for the fantastic individual that she was, and it would help reassure him that she was ready to survive in these mountains again before he released her with the herds.

That alone had seemed like a good idea all those months ago when he first heard about the event, but now he felt doubt beginning to niggle at him. He did not doubt her abilities, but instead he couldn't quiet the voice that deep down asked if she would want to come back to him after tasting freedom again. Her eagerness at heading out only served to encourage that voice to speak louder. But this time at least he would be going with her. Together they could achieve the goal and then he would have some time to prepare himself.

Sherry tossed her head, snorting and shifting in place. She was not interested in waiting around while her human thought, she wanted to move. Cavan sighed and then smooched her onwards, letting her push into the untouched snow and into the mountains where she had once roamed free.
