To explain my thought process behind Nordic, I wanted it to be an amalgamation of my many influences. My main ones for this series are Transformers and Saban's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. But there were a number of other influences, such as Voltron, Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot, Gatchaman (Battle of the Planets), Speed Racer and Gridman the Hyper Agent. All of that wrapped into one unconventional comic.
Similar to "Tír na nÓg: Legend", Nordic will be PG. Though I'm usually someone who makes things that he wants to see, not what focus groups want to see. I mean, there's a possibility that maybe people don't know what's best for them, and by continually giving them the same crap they'll never know what's different so they'll just keep asking for the same crap...

I'm a college boy, but I'm still a kid in a way so I'm trying to tap into the "Stranger Things", "It" or "Goonies" type of feeling as well as the mech suits, robot fights and action.
Compared to "Tír na nÓg: Legend", this comic is a particularly ambitious project. Mainly because sci-fi is a little more difficult to tackle. Every new comic that I do, I try to push myself to the limit. This one has lighting, the characters are much more volumetrically drawn, I'm trying to come up with creative alien and robot designs of course, so the combination of that is quite complicated and just the scale of this series is quite monstrous. Here there's three or four storylines. There's multiple characters. Because this is dealing with school there are always crowd shots. The action is always in cities, so the scale is epic and that's what makes it fun to read, it's like, I can't believe I drew that.

For those who haven't watched much anime, lead characters are frequently little kids or teenagers and the action is often offset with school social situations. I can write romance and love and jealousy and break up, stuff that's more dramatic because it's harder on the emotions. At the same time, I can do comedy that's a little more adult (kids may or may not get it). Plus, the idea of a young and/or teenage superhero is something that always fascinated me. I think I read those kinds of comics the most. Spider-Man, X-Men, Teen Titans, TMNT, Power Pack, Ms. Marvel, The Legion of Super-Heroes, to name a few. And while I don't think everyone will relate to these characters, I think we can all relate to the story of figuring out who we are, and who we want to be, and what role virtue has in our life. And by virtue, I mean, "What are our values? What do we stand for? What do we live our lives by?" I think that is universal and that is what speaks to people about these kinds of characters. All of us have to step into and deliberately choose who we're gonna to be, what values we're gonna to live by, what virtues we're going to espouse. And you can't hold a virtue while denigrating it. You have to honor it.
With Nordic, the whole idea of young heroism plays into the comic as well. When you're younger you play hero, when you're older, you can actually be a hero, so it has that opportunity and much more realistic in a way that you can go out and save the world here and there.

The idea of "fitting in" is crucial to this comic series, which is a theme that probably runs throughout my art as a whole. I don't know if that's because I have high-functioning autism and was the type of kid that flew under the radar, it was all about fitting in, trying to be "normal".
My favorite character would have to be Lys. Out of all members of the Toramos family, Lys has, perhaps, the hardest time adjusting to her new surroundings. With her long, white hair and colorful (almost Harajuku-inspired) clothing, she looks different than her classmates. She's also a well-meaning and quite regal character, sort of a tomboy with a girly streak. Lys is always wanting to take a stand, to right what she sees is wrong, and be a leader. She's like one of Disney's tomboy princesses in a way. On her home world, she's accepted and admired, seen as "the best princess ever". On Earth, she's considered a dork because she's outgoing and she wants to be unique in her dress and have style and personality. She's got a long journey ahead of her, but hopefully she'll get there.
