Description It's finally October and I've been wanting to do a traditional Headless Horseman theme for a while now. I was also dying to try out the new Daz 2 Horse on something, (which is super detailed and you pretty much cant do anything that doesn't look awesome with it, btw) so I cranked this one out.  I couldn't find a color scheme I was happy with so I settled for b&w, which looks cool too, so I just went with it.

This was my first render done in DAZStudio and I have to say, I am pretty happy with the results. I initially started this out in Poser, but somehow anything I do using DSON Importer, save and try to reopen, never reopens...  not sure if I am doing something wrong here...

I'll have to admit that once you get the hang of things, DAZStudio works really well when using DAZ only models. The parameters are really responsive and work quickly, as opposed to Poser, which sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, sometimes you just turn a dial and wait... also DAZStudio always seems to me to render with this sort of crispy, kind of chalky, brushed aluminum effect, so doing something with this kind of grainy look works really well.

I ended up just buying some light sets because I'm still a bit shaky with the UI, but once you mess with it a bit, things go really quickly as far a workflow. I spend a lot of time fixing things in Poser and with DAZStudio it seems to just let you get done, which I am a huge fan of.

More DAZ Studio experiments to come...

I work at a small community theatre in Mitchell, SD and we are performing The Legend of Sleepy Hollow this October. I would like to use this image on our playbill and posters for this production. Is this possible?

Great take on a classic theme. If I may ask, how was the horse's mane done? Is that straight render, or did you do some hair painting? I've been eyeing the Daz Horse 2, but the mane on the original always gave me trouble.

seanearley In reply to MorganRLewis [2014-10-07 08:10:09 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. The hair was done in postwork using the Main and Tail Pack from CWRW over on Rendo. Actually the main on the Daz 2 Horse is pretty decent, but I wanted to wait until I had the scene set up in Photoshop to decide where I wanted it to go, so I just rendered it without.

A Classic theme but you did a fantastic job with it, especially for your first DAZ render.

I've had several versions of Poser over the years and honestly (and it may just be me) I get much better results with DAZ. I adore the genesis modelling system and can just waste hours experimenting with the morphs. The cross compatability on the models is a huge plus for me too. I have the new Horse Dog and Dragons models and they are all so much fun to play with.

Thanks! Yep, i'm really liking the Genesis stuff too. I still need to experiment some with the render quality, but i'm getting the hang of DAZ much better now I think.

Well done! Beats the pants off my first DAZ render. Isn't Horse2 fun?
On a technical note: I doubt it's anything wrong with the file saving. I don't use Poser and DSON, but I do use Luxus and once I've done a test render, well, I can't stop there. Because if I save the file and reopen it, all the materials turn white and need a TON of effort to fix 'em. I think it's a DAZ thing, I've only had this problem since 4.6 came out. It sounds similar to your issue to me...
