SeaWhisper In reply to MaciejKarcz [2009-05-28 17:14:29 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's the same in Poland too. But you know I guess it's the whole modern society. Psychologists say that people can addict to anything. So addicting to buying is nothing new...
Btw could you recommend me some good not so strong green tea? I just went out of mine. Don't remember which one, but it was in these little orbs that when you pour water turned into long leaves. Sencha maybe. I mixed it with normal black tea. And now I can't find any suitable green for replacement.

MaciejKarcz In reply to SeaWhisper [2009-05-28 17:53:03 +0000 UTC]

Ah nothing would give me greater pleasure
Jasmine Pearl (also known as Dragon Pearls) is a fairly delicate green tea scented with jasmine. There are many kinds of jasmine tea but jasmine pearls are typically among the best quality. I have heard from a Taiwanese friend that sometimes this can be mixed with a very small amount of honey. What you do is dip a spoon in honey, just so the spoon is coated and then use that spoon to stir the tea. The leaves are rolled into pearls which unfurl when steeped, here's an example of what they look like: [link]

Another very delicate green tea (which I think is a very symbolic green tea) is Gyokuro. It looks similar to sencha (which is just an ordinary Japanese green tea) but it is very different in character and flavor. Gyokuro has to be steeped with water that is not too hot (I like 70-80C) and for less than a minute. Here's what this one looks like: [link]
There are a number of fine senchas, they are also relatively easy to recognize because ordinary sencha looks similar to things like Dragonwell (it looks more "weathered") whereas fine senchas look like silk and feel like silk, very very delicate to the touch.

There's also Dragonwell which I have a lot of, this one is a more robust green tea. It is bolder than gyokuro but I feel it can be enjoyed at anytime and can tolerate hotter water and a longer steep time. Here's what this one looks like: [link]
(unfortunately my favorite tea website's links don't work with dA, while Teavana makes some good teas it tastes too corporate and Americanized most of the time)

If you're after a really delicate tea then perhaps you can consider white tea, for example: [link]
White tea has very little caffeine (only herbal tea has less). White tea is also a very submissive tea, I imagine that it would work well if combined with some other more powerful tea.

Speaking of addictions, I think it's time for tea

Well this one of mine did looked like these Dragon Pearls and once I checked it (just have some) it have some white parts so it maybe a jasmine too. From what I see it's quite popular. I really pity that I don't know what was it. I had it's name on a bag but I throw it away and put into box. :/ I remember it was really expensive, but not outrageously...
I like these Dragon Pearls because it looks similar to mine.

MaciejKarcz In reply to SeaWhisper [2009-05-29 15:09:30 +0000 UTC]

The dragon pearls should have a very nice jasmine smell. What I like about this place [link] is that their jasmine pearls have also a slight berry aroma, like strawberry, it's a very delicious tea
