Description
I'm walking down the street again
Under the half-moon that smiles down on the cold people in the dead of winter, I stroll with my friend, with my ally, with my close companion across the bustling city as fresh snow falls around us. Shop windows shine with curios and bric-a-brac waiting to be purchased and placed into the waiting arms of loved ones, and from the rabble raises joyous banter and giddy anticipation. From every open door that empties out onto the sidewalk comes familiar tunes that dissolve and dissipate into the crisp night air. Pumpkin spice and evergreen oil flood the senses and mingle with the breath from bodies captured by the chill. Urban trees sprout tiny lights from branches that carried leaves not long ago.
A child runs down the sidewalk and slips on the salt that melts the slush into old rain. A mother worriedly scolds a child with stellar frozen crystals of ice in her wild hair. A father places his hand on a child's shoulder and grins proudly. A couple walks arm in arm, taking the time to laugh and kiss and chat about their year's end plans. A man walks alone, smiling to himself as he clutches a newfound trinket to his chest. A woman sits and sings, ringing a bell and holding a bin full of money for those who need it. A friend, an ally, a close companion of mine walks slightly ahead and stops, waiting for me to get my head out of the clouds.
And I'm just walking down the street again.
