It's weird! The first few pics of Homestuck I submitted were trolls, like, Sollux and Vriska (and a COLORED OMG Karkat and Sollux one might be coming???), but honestly, I prefer the kids. A lot! I don't get people who like the trolls better. I mean sure the trolls are cool but come on.

have to agree with you full-heartedly on the dave/jade man
it just always feels like the ship is jade-centric and its all about how jade treats dave and how jade affects dave and never really shows dave's side? i feel like her personality overwhelms his while john and dave and dave and rose is more complementary and equal (i put too much thought into this shit)

i kind of agree, i'm not sure about the jade-centric thing but then again i'll admit that i've stayed away from most dave/jade things! (wow, that sounds mean! but you don't read things you know you won't like, you know? go with the flow~) but i agree with the personality thing. it's less that hers overwhelms his (because he's dave. he's got a pretty overwhelming everything!

I'm iffy towards Dave and Jade too because shippers tend to take Dave's coolness at face value, fitting the ship into the "cool guy + damsel in distress" pattern which I don't think is applicable here at all. Jade is miles ahead of Dave; she has more sagacity than any of the other kids and is at ease with herself, whereas Dave is hiding behind a façade and may well be in it only for the novelty of romancing a girl, which is par for the course considering his age. Jade simply deserves much better. You could say the same for John/Dave, but homo isn't cool so that helps subvert Dave's smothering self-image a bit.
I don't like Dave/Terezi either because she's like a high school slut. I wouldn't even dislike her for playing on his insecurities for her grotesque amusement if she didn't start crying about it down the line.
Apparantly I'm opposed to anything that's heterosexual. Except Sollux/Feferi. We hardly knew ye.

Yes! In my own headcanon (because even though I'm kind of sure it's been hinted at, I just suck at interpreting canon so), Dave is actually KIND OF REALLY INSECURE. Also, I don't know about Jade. I mean, she is probably really at ease with herself like you said having been RAISED IN ISOLATION X'D but about having sagacity, well. She knew a bunch of stuff from the clouds, and knew to let things take their own course?? I don't know, Jade seems pretty normal wiseness-wise to me. (Though have you read as her city burns? it's a fanfiction by dellaluce on AO3 and JEGUS it has this almost scary interpretation of Jade. It's kind of dark but I think it's kind of in line with what you're saying here!)
AH I don't want to think that Dave would do that but his being a thirteen year old obsessed with being cool i could not put it past him. X'DDDD But I still don't really think he would. (do those two sentences even make sense together, what.) like it's not like jade/john deserve better, exactly. i just don't think jade and dave are really compatible. someone said they flirt in practically every pesterlog they have but i am just like "for serious? :T" because well, Jade is silly and gives everyone <3s!
That's one of the reasons I like John/Dave!! *u* It's like, being gay isn't SUPER COOL like everything else Dave likes to pretend he does but he is so it's like *SUBVERT!* And I just think that that's adorable. <3
