It's pagan symbolism put into a design I did myself.
The outline, which shows the maxing moon, the full moon, and the waning moon symbolizes the lunar cycle, the phases of womanhood, and is the sign of the triple goddess: maiden, mother, crone.
The outline of the full moon has been turned into the most basic symbol of Ouroborus, the snake eating it's own tail: the sign of rebirth, and infinity.
The pentacle in the center symbolizes harmony of the five elements: air, water, earth, fire, spirit.
The four triangular symbols (can't see the right-most one) are old runic symbolism for the four elements in their corresponding direction:
North: Earth - Feminine, fertility, cycle of life
South: Fire - Masculine, energy, will, creation, destruction
East: Air - soul, breath, wisdom, communication
West: Water - healing, cleansing, purification, passion, emotion

I don't care for tattoos that are gotten on a whim, or are just of 'whatever looks cool'. They need to have meaning for me. All of mine do, and most I had a hand in designing.

Agree. My tats are for me. If anyone else is genuinely interested then it's of course cool to share but they have become such a 'fashion' and really a visual representation of the 'look at me, im important' culture. I guess it's anyones choice to do what they wish to their own body but it's a shame that they have taken such a personal ritual and turned it into a meaningless public fashion show. I'll step off the soapbox now....

Ha ha yeah I can relate to that. I have nine tats, all personalized to me. And a couple my artist designed for me, but I haven't had money or time to get done yet (I have a chest piece in design that matches my hand, but didn't have the time to get both done).

Lovely tat, but it looks very heavy. Is it still raised and was it really sore?

All my B&W tats are pretty heavy. None of them hurt much though -- except when I'd bump my hip one into a doorframe or table, that SUCKED.
