Texture, as in like you create a blank space but you fill it with either grass, water, fire, or concrete patters to help create the image you want.
In short it's like skin.
Are stocks like this? Or in general what are stocks?

Do you want to know the difference between patterns, textures and stocks?
Textures are pictures that show a certain structure... (example:[link] )
Patterns are tileable textures (example [link] )
The texture repeats vertically and horizontally. You can put it next to itself as often as you like.
Stocks are photos or graphics that you can use to create new Works (for example photomanips [link] or websites [link] )
I think "Stock" is also used as a category for all resources you might use to create an artwork, like application resources (brusches, custom shapes, actions and pattern) and of course photos and graphics.
