Sorry, what's your point?

My point is that occasionally people get the leaders they vote for and give them the benefit of the doubt before calling them fascists, Nazis, capitalist pigs, imperialists or any other hollow slander they decide to use.
My point is that maybe we should cut our elected officials some slack and not just hate them because they're in a posistion of authority.

I never did any of that so I'm not sure how it applies here...

Many people have political views that don't fit with any of the major parties (which often don't differ as much as people think) so no matter who gets into power, they won't represent those people's views; and because of public perceptions and the way much of the mainstream media portrays politics there is no realistic hope in most countries of any other than 2 or 3 parties ever being in power

Very true my friend. The problem with democracy is that it is utterly governed by public sentiment. Something which comes and goes like the changing tides. Even if the people are happy with the leadership it doesn't take long for them to begin feeling bitter about the whole thing.

And therin lies the one massive failing of democracy. The idea is to give people a voice. But how can you - as a leader - listen to a voice that constantly changes? That is often manipulated by the gutter press and petty bigotry?

I believe in democracy, I truly do. But I just wish that the populace as a whole was more enlightened and understanding of the burdens of leadership

Agreed. The fault generally lies less with the people and more with the system - the people are the face for the system though, and it makes for a decent picture I think

The government are supposed to act in the best interest of the people and the country, but they are acting in the best interests of themselves - when a government figure acts in the best interest of himself, it's called a tyranny. The only difference now is there are six hundred fifty-six corrupt tyrants as a collective, making them more difficult to overthrow than the traditional one.
