Description Part of a series of photographs taken from underneath a maypole. Pretty green and purple ribbons, outlined by a deep blue sky, are woven together by dozens of women young and old at Mount Holyoke college's annual May Pageant in May of 2006. May day is traditionally a pagan holiday, but here it represents the beginning of the true growing season. It is a celebration that anyone can take part in.

All pictures in the series were taken with a Minolta Freedom Zoom 130 and then scanned in using a Lexmark 1150 which unfortunately has taken down the quality of what you are seeing considerably.

I was trying to capture the maypole with the sun while the wind was up, but I snapped the picture just a moment too late. Still, it's a nice photo. My one wish is that the smudge in the middle caused by the sun were not there.
