Heyho people!

Here is the final version of the YCH I finished yesterday

A huge thank you to the people who had bid on it. You helped me out a lot !

The painting process was rather slow and I had over 16 hours of footage to go through

and in the end most of the details are invisible due to the water :'D

I really have to get a better grip on drawing more efficiently, haha.

Who knows maybe I will host a few more with this kind of theme but with different poses and flowers.

Again, I got inspired by the Awesome work of Slevin Aaron and Reykat

As always, I really hope you like it and please let me know what you think

Overall

Vision

Originality

Technique

Impact

Pros - A nice artwork that is very eye-catching. I like the originality of it, and I feel that the blue eyes against the rest of the grey colors stands out. Certain aspects of this art piece, such as her fingertips resting gently against her fur, parts of the flower petals dipping slightly into the water, and her solemn expression, are a nice touch. The tiny details of the water around her body add a lot of life to this as well. Her proportions are well and in place, too.

Cons - Her hair flowing in the water feels overly detailed to the point of being distracting. Something about the shading specifically there feels a tad off. The pose feels a bit awkward and forced. I feel that there should be more detail to the water, such as very small ripples, which would be caused even by the slightest of movement. This would give this artwork an overall more organic feel. I think the contrast and lighting could also stand out more, as the shading doesn't vary as much as it should... Varying degrees of darkness and light would make a big impact overall.

Oh wow thank you for this critique !
its getting rare that people leave a good constructive  critique.
and I agree with you
I guess the biggest mistake I made with the whole piece
is I focused to much on the rendering on the character and flowers.

For example the hair.
I shaded it completely (even the parts that are under water ) and I think the reason why this seems so distracting is because I placed the water around it wrong.
There are many points that annoy me on this piece but I can't quite place a finger on it. I think that are the consequences for working non stop on one piece over several hours.

For the water itself I tried to stick with the reference as much as possible. There were no ripples or any other movement on the photo so I thought it would be okay.
In the end I think most of it is all a matter of taste.
But I try to make it better next time !  <3

You're quite welcome!

Like I said, I think the art piece is very beautiful but I do see the things you can improve on. Just keep practicing and remember to try to not focus too hard on one thing when you draw. One of the best lessons that I learned from one of my previous art teachers is that if you get stuck on focusing too hard, it actually makes things worse. Try to draw with a quick flow. It will give your art more life and it teaches you how to not get stuck on one detail and to not overdo it.

I see. Well then do what makes you comfortable when it comes to the water if it was like that in the reference.

But yeah, try to remember to kind of work in parts. Make a base, then add some large details, then medium details, and last small and intricate details. Working from the ground up and not taking too much time to focus on one area constantly makes for a much better workflow.
