Description I've been so so busy with work until now. This will be my last
artwork for this year.

A recon team checks out a flooded abandoned factory.
The power slave unit provides added firepower should they
encounter enemy units. Note cannon on mech's left hand
can be folded back and onto shoulder rails for storage or
shoulder mounted firing.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

Thanks for the comments! What I tell many people that pointed out
the vulnerably exposed cockpit is that this design was more
about aesthetics and was never about functionality/protection.
...and the pilot is sooo exposed, all it takes is just one shot, lol.

Yes, it does have a bit of a different artisic appeal as opposed to the standard mech. I tend to jusde things from a perspective of form and function, in which case mechs (which I love) would never exsist, because tanks are far superior in so many ways. So I find I have to tone my military enthuseasum and just enjoy the art.

i really like the scene...but if we talk about war strategy, probably a mech is not good for a scouts team xD

Very cool picture but isn't the pilot on the power slave exoskeleton/armour extremely exposed. One stray bullet or a guy with a sniper rifle and that impressive unit is made worthless

sekido54 In reply to Balder8472 [2008-10-18 00:09:53 +0000 UTC]

hey, thanks a lot and very good observation! I get the same comments on previous artworks
where the pilot is exposed to enemy fire. I draw them that way because 1) it shows the human
aspect of a power slave 2) it shows a defect in the designing, and 3) it shows a vulnerability
(everything has a weak spot). More than anything, I do it for aesthetic looks. But I leave the
reasons up to the viewer...but then again, maybe the pilot just wants to show his bravado, lol.

what really helped me was studying traditional painting and watching training dvds. ps is just another media to show
visual art. if you study the fundamentals of art, your digital paintings will be great!

Quality pic mate, nice atmosphere and depth. I agree with the earlier comment on the amount of highlights being a bit over the top- also I think you should play with the water a bit- get some ripples and splashes going where that mech is wading through the water. I'm sure something that big would cause some waves!

Anyways, once again- great image!

Was reading how you created the junk and was, in my opinion, really innovative! Looks like a good place for an ambush...

sekido54 In reply to breakermw [2008-01-02 03:54:23 +0000 UTC]

hey, thanks! wanna know a secret? all that background(pile of junk) was
created from the original mech design. i copied, distorted, rescaled, and
made multiple copies of the mech until i made a pile of junk, and voila,
a cool background. see that small light in the upper right? if you look
carefully, it's the left knee of the mech(which was was flipped vertically
and horizontally).
