I really want to try this technique! How did you do this? What sort of glue did you use to glue the tracing paper to the foamcore?
(I'm assuming you glued the paper down first?)

Hi I used acrylic matte medium as the adhesive. You'll usually find it an art store stocked with the acrylic paints (like Liquitex) instead of glues. If you want to protect your charcoal drawing from smudging once it's done, spray it lightly with a fixative, let it dry, and then paint an additional layer of matte medium over the whole surface.

Hmmm, I have a satin medium, that would probably work too I guess

Do you crinkle the paper first or put it on flat?

Thanks for telling me your trade secrets!

It's actually really hard to get the tracing paper to lay flat on the wet adhesive XD It's so thin that it will want to stick all over the place. Just cover large sections of the foamcore with the matte (or satin) medium, and then start laying your pieces of paper on top. You don't have to fuss with it too much...part of the fun is seeing what kind of patterns and wrinkles form on their own! Just make sure it's totally dry before you start drawing on it, otherwise the tracing paper will rip.

Amazing. I am a high school art teacher and would love to do something like this with my AP studio kids. Would you be willing to email me the steps on how you created this and the texture? My email is wendykathleenart@juno.com

Much Thanks. You have a great talent.
