Description Two pre-industrial Planters planning an expedition to discover the location of the fabled third Sea.

The Cascade Sea was the last of the three seas to be discovered by the Planters due to the fact that in order to reach it one must cross vast stretches of unforgiving, uncharted desert. Many expeditions to find the fabled sea succumbed to exposure and thirst, leaving their dried up caravans in out in the wastes as warnings to all those who would seek to find the sea themselves.

It wasn't until the explorer-philosophers of the old Western Fountain Commonality began using advanced scientifically backed research to find clues to the location of the sea that it would be found. By making observations about wind patters and the ice content of sand (aided by primitive microscopes), these explorers were able to learn that the sea that Planters had so long searched for was farther North than anyone thought possible. Soon the sea was discovered, but the Fountainites would be surprised to find that they had lost the race to find it by almost eight thousand years...

Fountainite explorers traditionally wore extravagant garb in order to impress any new civilizations they came across and give them a good impression about the wealth of their homelands. This set a trend among many countries, who would often dress diplomats and their own explorers similarly. This led to cases where the citizens of one country that admired an ally of their lands might dress the way they see visitors from those allies- which would be their explorers. Clear into the industrial age, Planters dressed in bright colors as homage to the explorers of old who made first contact between their countries.

Hanging on the wall behind these two explorers is a weapon that to them was considered exotic. Pre-firearm fountainite soldiers used polearms and knives in combat- large, two-handed slashing weapons were a new idea to them, discovered through trade and warfare with the far eastern Path Sea nations.
