This is my OTP. There are many like it, but this one is mine.I know that there's the obvious issue of the age/species gap, but these two are so cute together, I can't help but love them!!
Sadly, unless Hasbro Studios comes up with a way to get these two together, WITHOUT pissing off the soccer moms, their relationship won't evolve past "cute crush" status. However, even though Spike may never have his feelings returned, I'm sure Rarity loves the attention, all the same.

I'm starting to wonder if the writers care at all about this couple or its fans. We had practically no sweet Spike and Rarity moments last season, and M.A. Larson seems to be the only writer that's given them the nicest moments they've shared so far.

I'm pretty sure they're aware of how popular Sparity has become. Heck, I'd say that there was a satisfactory amount of Sparity in season four, even though it wasn't on the level of 'Secret of My Excess,' or even 'Dragon's Quest' for that matter. Remember earlier this year, when Meghan McCarthy was at BABSCon? She was misquoted by saying that Sparity was dead, but she only said that it wouldn't be appropriate for them to date, since Spike was a child. However, she followed by saying that they had more cute moments between he and Rarity planned for the future.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Sparity is far from dead and with season five confirmed to have 26 episodes, there's plenty of opportunity for more Sparity moments.

Actually, her calling him a child was misquoted too. She called him a young boy. And where and when was the follow-up that there'd be more nice moments between them in season 5? This is the first I'm hearing of it.

Well, you know what I meant, Meghan basically stated the obvious fact that we already knew, but season five isn't here yet, so all I can say is be patient.

Spike really isn't a child. Or at least not as young as many think. He's probably like 12 or 13 at the youngest, considering Twilight was only a few years old herself when she hatched him. When people hear the word child, they think, like, 5-8 years old, which Spike likely isn't, for said reasons. Also, we saw that dragons grow faster based on their greed, and Spike generally suppresses his, which would likely explain his young appearance. He's probably a pre-teen or young teen at the youngest, for the same said reasons. Of course, she just HAD to make her statement based on what things appear to be and what many people think, instead of going into detail, probably largely in part to make things easier. Feh. Phooey, I say!

Sure, it's easy to speculate on Spike's exact age, but the fact of the matter is that he still counts as a child and it would spark up controversy.
I'm not saying that he and Rarity shouldn't be shipped because of this... GOD, NO!! Sparity is my OTP and I simply can't imagine any other pairing that I would want to see become canon more than that one! I'm just being realistic about the age issue, which is probably an even bigger issue than the species gap, IMO.

I suppose even 12-14 could still be considered a child by some, but there would probably be less controversy if his age were to be officially revealed to be one of those ages. Just as long as it weren't revealed to be any more than a few years younger than Rarity's age, which many think it IS only a few years. So if they were to reveal it to be like that, there'd be less controversy. The second solution would be to make him older, possibly through the greed thing.

Yeah, but despite the similarities, the differences are astronomical. Trixie may be aware that Timmy likes her, and she even showed signs of liking him back, which certainly sounds similar to Rarity and Spike's friendship, but unlike Trixie, Rarity isn't fake. She doesn't treats Spike like dirt, just to keep up appearances with her friends, while secretly admiring him.

I've thought about a couple of ideas, which would allow Spike to grow to an acceptable size but as far as the actual canon goes, it all depends upon how (and IF) they decide to do it.

Season 5 - Spike finds a new crush and Rarity becomes jealous... I don't know, the 'cute crush' will eventually fade for the better good or the worst.

Funny you should mention Rarity getting jealous over Spike, since it actually happens in one of the MLP paperback books. Apparently, Rarity befriends a pony who idolizes her and even begins copying her. Once she starts calling Spike cute nicknames, Rarity's jimmies become quite rustled.

Exactly! As a Sparity shipper, I savor every cute moment that happens between Rarity and Spike; be it in the show, or the comics! However, I still ship the hell out of them, regardless of what may or may not happen between them in canon!

Granted its not romance but cute crush moments, which is fine. I'm tolerable of Sparity, but only to an extent. As a bisexual myself, I find that gays/lesbian romance is more meaningful than straights, simply because of how cruel they're treated out of the norm and that they relate to one another within their respective genders. Straight romances... they're just that, but most of them can be heartwarming and romantic, I'd just prefer something that deserves a bit more attention.
