I love this picture because it illustrates what I believe their relationship to be - a camaraderie. but I think I've just read a lot of fics where Severus hated Dumbledore for what he's done (for trapping him...making him dance under the two greatest wizards of their time) and where Dumbledore is just portrayed as a cold, manipulative old man that only allows himself to know the "plan". Which I totally understand, if you want to look at his machinations with darker lenses. Dumbledore is, without a word, a manipulative man, but I believe he does them with regret. He doesn't place Severus under Voldemort again without any remorse because it is, as he would say, "for the greater good". I'd like to believe that Albus cared for Snape and vice versa (more of the kindly grandfather-mentor/son-student relationship than anything romantic).

What I think I like best of a comment like yours is that, I have struck a chord somehow, compelling you to want to make a comment, a fine one, I might add.
I agree with you that they share a profound sense of camaraderie.
I myself feel that it stems from their near equal understanding of magick. All other commonality tugs at their relationship … their shadowed tempest of proximity.
Albus sees in Severus the capacity of great magical power, sadly, unfulfilled, the path which he himself might have taken.
The wasted opportunity of the Potionsmasters full potential as a wizard.
Severus ever striving to attain the height and mastery of wizardry achieved by Albus Dumbledore, bitterly, without much success.
They can communicate the myriad aspects of their magickal arts in a sublime language of understanding that is rare between wizards. That alone would seem enough to fuel their relationship, but for my eyes, this leads them down many other emotional paths together, and this is precisely what makes them my favorite ship.
The Magick always comes first.

This picture is wonderful. I love this so much, especially their expressions. I wish I could draw as good, but sadly I've been in a drawer's block and haven't had time to adapt and better my art (I have much trouble with shading). I refuse to go to art class, though. It's just a thing of mine. I see and mimic certain aspects of a drawing to make myself better. I've taught myself so far. Don't want to change now.

The only other person in my family who draws is my mother. Well, she used to. At some point she just stopped. By the way, I'm drawing another picture of Severus. Because I don't have easy access to a scanner, I've been drawing on "Paint"...slowly. The Snape fan in me has reawakened with a vengence. Rorschach and the Potions master are battling to the death in my mind (wand vs. crowbar. Hmmm...considering the oponents, there's no telling who'll win).
