Description Okay I am listing this one as "traditional" because a large part of it was made as graphite on paper.
Then the actual graphite elemtns were scanned and painted, etc. digitally. Since most of the digital aspect to this lies in the compositiong and some of teh painting/detailing it is about 85%-90% traditional. True mixed media, mixed processes as well.

So graphite and digital.
This is very small compared to the work I usually make but lately I've been interested in making work that is more intimate in terms of scale.
So the original will be around 8.5 x 11 or maybe as large as 16x20.

Very nice work. Are the strokes digital or graphite? I absolutely love your work but,I have to be honest, for some reason I long to see you do something in just traditional methods - to see the outcome, like an experiment. Your work is so strong and looks like (from the computer screen) that it is done non-digitally and then I read it is not. I guess I'm curious on how your work would translate in another media. Maybe it's because I'm a traditional artist...I don't know. But am an amateur in the digital world so I don't know exactly what it takes to do what you do - I'm sure it's tedious. All and all, I'm very impressed and really enjoy your work. Kudos! And thank you for the favorites of my work!

Hey thanks, I am glad you stopped by to check it out. My background was traditional studio art ( areas of concentration: drawing/painting/photo/graphic design) but in 1995, poking around in one of the computer labs between traditional classes I discovered Photoshop and have been a convert ever since.

The drawn aspects in this work, are traditional graphite scanned in from sketchbook, but then augmented with drawing/painting in digital using a tablet and stylus. (WACOM)
So often, much of the work is just straight digital but this is one of the more hybrid pieces. I've come back to working that way because I think the combination of the two paths produces some of the most enjoyable results.

I am only now getting into printmaking of the traditional sort so again, I love the work you are doing. Thanks very much for stopping by!

Beauty and menace seem to co-exist nicely in this one...

This image sets my imagination aflame...

I feel like I'm looking at the vision that popped into Waite's mind before he decided to set to work on that Tarot deck of his. Something of an archetypal quality to it.

However, it still Bosches me out slightly...

Ha, thanks. Yeah this is a slippery one. It changes and "iterates" I think is the word, from time to time.

wow - i'm impressed! but do not know if the listing in traditional art is right .... i think without digita tools it wouldn't be the same work... so - mixed media would match more, i guess. but anyway... very good work. i like it a lot!

Thanks, there is a lot of traditional graphite work here but I know what you mean.
Is there a digital mixed media?
I might have missed that.

Ah well, glad ya stopped by!

mmhh.. i guess there is no 'digital mexed media'... i know the problem, the categories do not fit well sometimes... i just commented it because your work was 'so much' digitally ... i don't know ... anyway

awesome, awesome work, senecal. i love the look of urgency and fear that seems to eminate from the girl's eyes. your eyes are drawn straight to hers. i really hope you'll be doing more mixed media deviations, soon.

Hey thanks, no worries it still resists my intentions more than the pixels... so I can relate!
Charcoal is even worse! I think the trick is letting it make what it wants and then going along for the ride.
If you try to force it into becoming something it doesn't want, it tends to go south in a hurry.
Glad ya stopped by to see it!
