Well, I've finally managed to find a digital frame to display the work in its native environment.There are a few various products out there that were not necessarily intended for the use I am putting them toward but they work.
SO, what you see here is one in a series of works that will reside in such a frame, for gallery exhibition.
This is the image, there is no print size. I never intended it to be made into a hardcopy.
I love the freedom of this, saying, to hell with it, come to this world or move on.
Though I do still like quality printed versions and will continue to make them, this marks a milestone moment.
As for issues of duplication, and originality, I have some ideas to answer collector questions but for the most part, these are conversations better left for the art historians to address. I just want to make the work for the moment and truthfully, there is a bit I am still figuring out.
Thanks for checking it out. The frame is small, about 5x7 but I will have to upload some photos of it "in action". It also compliments nicely the acrylic clear custom framing style I'd developed for my archival hardcopy imagey ( which I do still love too).

I commend you for your thoughts and aspirations on the whole "staying digital/going to print" aspect, and I am sure, as per your description, that you have given thought to said tranferance of images to collectors, etc.
Of course, in the near future, such devices may indeed be hand held and easily transportable, sort of a "pocket gallery" type enviroment on a much greater resolution and size than the cell phone downloads that many people currently employ.
As always, your images are complexly simplified. Or is that simply complex? Either way you cook it, it is still cool beans.

It's made by Philips, an has what appears to be an acrylic clear frame around it. Made for photos but it will show digital files fine (which is not the case with other earlier models)

awesome. i havent been on here in a while but i'm glad i came because your gallery looks awesome, as usual.
This one is gorgeous, the texture is very rich, the colors refreshing... very organic at first look, but there's also something chillingly mechanical about it.... the closer you look the more it looks engineered, almost like a city. I really enjoy the play on the organic/mechanical elements. nice job.

This is the original, actually. It is a purely digital work, never intended to be printed.

Short version, yes, though there are others who have made moves in this direction.
Since at least 1998 I have been waiting for the technology to become available.
It is good because it retains the imagery in its native environment, but the downside is the size limitation of the display devices.
But you have to work with what you have for the time being!

Yeah I tend to jabber on a bit.
Mostly because at the time of writing, I am thinking about what I wanted to say.

i like the feeling it implies, like hey, this is digital art and its going to stay digital. why should my piece of art created digitally be forced to be put in the standards of print and the world of traditional art? its digital for the sake of being digital and i love that.
but youve also just pointed out another fun little quirk of the digital world, it can tank out.

The shifting zones of sharpness are very interesting, somewhat similar to depth of field stacking in a photo but clearly very different also. The line work, on Difference or masked or however, in the lower right also is interesting.
You could put your work anywhere, from a napkin to a 50β plasma, and it would look good. Interesting to see such a deliberate choice though. Would be good to see scrap photos of this contraption in actionβ
To hell with hardcopies, I say. I think Iβve only printed a handful of my photos, into a photo book for my grandfatherβs birthday and also some test 8x5 postcards, otherwise Iβm unpublished. Partly I donβt want to deal with the hassle of learning to print or finding some place trustworthy to print for me, partly because I donβt show at galleries so donβt need prints, but also partly because I donβt like the idea of un-digitizing my work.
