She's so beautiful.
I'm pretty sure the orb-thing is used to describe the pattern of the spider's web. Some spiders make webs that almost looks like small pieces of grey veil and they're sticky as hell.
I'm pretty sure orb-weaving spiders make the more traditional spiral-shaped webs we see out in the open.
I could be wrong though. I could be oh so very wrong.
No matter what: this spider is very VERY pretty<3

I really don't like spiders but I have to say, this one is absolutely gorgeous.

These are some of the most beneficial spiders you can have in your garden. They'll clear all of your plants of harmful bugs. I encourage a couple to live in my vegetable patch every year by leaving twigs up in the center undisturbed area. They're beautiful. ^^

And well, it was a sight to behold when I stumbled upon it because I normally don't see such beautiful spiders around. Hell, shortly after this one I noticed there were TONS of these suckers around. I walked further into bushy areas and there were like 5 of em in a single bush. It was pretty cool.

We had one of those lovely spiders up the road from us... the size of a large hand... had babies too.. They are Bird Eating spiders so they are harmless to us. Just like Daddy Long Leggs are dangerous to animals but not humans because of the toughness of our skins! ^^ ... and no I am NOT a spider nerd >.>

Wow, what a terrific idea. I wouldn't mind doing the same thing, actually. If I go back to the forest, I don't think they'll be there any longer. Don't they lived only for a few days or somethin? I'm not sure, so don't note me on that hehe.
Do you have the 3 together in a container or separately? And, what do you feed them?

It's pretty to look at, but...
I had a moment in the past week where I was taking a bath and shaving my legs when a spider roughly the size of a 50cent piece dropped out of the water faucet. So....spiders=bad to me right now. Sorry. ^_^ Still an amazing picture which leads me to really want to know what kind of camera and lenses you used. Which will in turn make me horribly jealous, but oh well.

It just means that it makes an orb-shaped web to catch its prey in. Usually when an insect has such vivid colors, it's not because its sting is poisonous, but because it tastes awful. It kind of does that as a warning to birds not to eat them because they are foul tasting. And the zig-zaggy line at the bottom of the web is also for the birds -- so that they can spot it easily and not get caught in the web, thereby ruining it. (Birds are much too big for the spiders to eat.) Great shot!

Yeah, I was actually thinking that and when I read online it was confirmed hehe. Kinda like the Monarch butterfly as well...not poisonous but protected from predators.
Thanks!
