over 12 years of practicing art, i never bothered to practice backgrounds. so i noticed whenever i had to do even a basic background without ref i would flounder and fall flat on my face. how embarrassing is that. unacceptable. so ive decided to bite the bullet and really practice.

i really hate painting in bright saturated palettes, they make me want to throw up, but you need to practice ALL hues, values and lighting conditions to get the basics right, then you will be able to take what you need for your style.

hey, even after doing this small amount, i already noticed an improvement in the colour picking of my normal art. so the frustrations do pay off. and one day things will look good without needing a ref. so long as you just keep at it. (and practice SMART and MINDFULLY, always critiquing what did and did not work)
