Description In addition to the Omega commission, I also received an awesome commission of my character, Beowulf, a hero of the Magical Underworld storyline, drawn by Bushinryu11

Magic in the SCUPeople have often asked me how magic works in my universe, so I figured I'd offer a detailed explanation and see if it might make things clearer. Origin of MagicThe first thing that needs to be covered is the origin of magic and where it came from. During ancient times, numerous strange beings crossed over into our world from another dimension, seeking a better life. What became of their home dimension remains a mystery, but this became simply known as "The Exodus". With them, theses interdimensional beings brough their culture, their technology, and most notably, their form of science, what humans at the time referred to as "magic", due to their lack of understanding. Over time, these magical beings began to adapt and integrate into their new home, with some species coexisting with humans, while others were wiped out due to conflict with humans, but their magic still remained. What is Magic? Now, you know where magic came from, but there's still the question of "what" magic is. Let's start by stripping away everything you have seen in other sources of fiction when it comes to magic. No wands, no spell books, no magic circles or runes, none of the usual flair and theatrics. Magic in my universe is quite simply another form of science, with its own set of laws and absolutes, with one of the greatest laws being, "One cannot create something from nothing". For example, if a magic user wanted to create a simple fireball, they would need to draw it from a source, such as a lighter or some other open flame, the same can be said for water, ice, earth, and air, every element requires a source. Once that source is acquired, the user can simply pour energy into it to manipulate it, such as increasing the size of the fireball, or reshaping it. To put it simply, magic in my universe is all about the manipulation of the world around you, and all a user needs is a source and the energy. Like any other form of science, magic has its limitations and absolutes. It can't bring the dead back to life for example, nor grant immortality. These are feats seen in fiction that has "chaotic" or "wild" magic, good for other fictional work, but not with mine. Who can wield Magic?Learning how to use magic is similar to learning martial arts; anyone can wield it with enough time and training. However, humans aren't able to wield magic as effectively as the magical beings can. This is due to adaptation and evolution, where they are from the magical beings, such as Trixie and Zeke had used magic for millennia, so naturally, their bodies had grown accustomed to wielding magic without physically draining themselves at a rapid pace.Humans, however, lack the stamina to use magic for long periods of time without passing out from fatigue. It's possible that over time, humans could wield magic as efficient as the magical beings, but it would take a very long time for their bodies to adapt to it. However, some have found an alternative to wielding magic through the use of cursed or enchanted objects, which we'll discuss down below. What are Cursed and Enchanted Objects?Energy is the source of all magic in the SCU, and it's everywhere. It's what magic users draw upon in order to use magic, by drawing it into themselves to fuel their feats of magic. This same energy can also be drawn into objects and with enough energy poured into them, can grant unusual powers, turning them into enchanted objects. While it remains unclear as how specific items become imbued with energy, what they all have in common is that they are connected in some way to an event in history or belonged to someone who was key to that event. Most of these objects look like everyday items from the time period it came from, from a simple watch to a coin, each having a different kind of magic ability. For example, one of my character's Eric, wields a simple key from the 1700's, however, that key belonged to Benjamin Franklin, and contains the lightning it captured during Benjamin's experiment with the kite, giving it electrical powers. Others however, like Hrunting, the sword that belonged to Beowulf, contains an enormous amount of energy that can imbued the user with great power. Depending on the event these items went through, it can be imbued with positive or negative energy, which determines if the item is either enchanted or cursed. There is more to the study of magic in the SCU, but hopefully, this should give you a quick understanding of how magic works in my universe. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
