A very effective tactic. Richard Wurmbrand (founder of Voice of the Martyrs) used it all the time against his captors (he was arrested quite a few times for "illegal religious activities," including fostering children of prisoners; it was Nazi/Communist Europe, after all). He discovered that one of the easiest ways to confuse his enemy was to smile and say something akin to, "God loves you, and there ain't nothin' you can do about it."
