The final blow on his chest felt like it had never been struck. All of his memories flashed before his eyes. The weight of life, for a fleeting second, lifted off of his shoulders...

Xigbar hit the ground with a heavy thud.

Sora glared at the helpless nobody splayed before him. A feeling crept up on his shoulders. Pity? Never.

"What's.... going.... on...?" Xigbar moaned weakly.

He moved a hand towards Sora. "Don't touch me!" The boy hissed, moving away from the nobody like he was a disease. Xigbar stopped, then sighed and rolled over.

"Roxas... Why?"

"I'm not Roxas." Sora said angrily, and left The Hall Of Empty Melodies.

Demyx entered top half of The Hall Of Empty Melodies. He'd heard struggle from around here only a while ago. At first he had passed it off as Xigbar training, but he'd gotten a really bad feeling just now and decided to check on The Freeshooter. The Melodious Nocturne looked around, on the ceiling, over the balcony...

"X-Xigbar!!" Demyx cried. He jumped from the balcony onto the 'ground' level and ran to assist his fallen comrade.

"Xigbar... I'm sorry. I should have come sooner. it's all my fault..." Demyx whispered, kneeling by Xigbar.

"No... It's not your fault... It's mine. I thought I could take him... by myself." He moaned.

"Oh, Xigbar..." The boy clung to him. "Don't leave... I don't want to be alone..."

"Don't worry, kid. We'll meet again."

"Really?"

"Sure, why not?"

Demyx felt something warm and wet run down his cheek- a tear. He gasped, buried his head into Xigbar's chest, and let out huge, quaking sobs. Even though he had no heart, a strange ache was clawing at where it should have been.

Xigbar carefully took off a glove and stroked the boy's hair. "Don't cry... Be strong. And don't forget, Dem..." He whispered three more words, smiled...

and faded away.

Demyx watched helplessly. A tear reached his eye.. then more.. until he was bawling on the place Xigbar used to be.

"If I don't have a heart," He choked, "Why does this hurt so much?"
