HOLY CRAP MY EYES HAVE BEEN BLINDED BY ALL THE COLOR --

*cough* Sorry about that. Aaaaand here they are. My very first batch of panthalassian adoptables. If you don't know already, these guys are a species I've been working on for awhile, and I'm really proud of them. They're an aquatic species of mammals, distantly related to seals.

All the panthalassians have colors and patterns based off of real tropical fish, as seen on the page. Sorry for the eye-blinding color brightness. :3 I grew up with waaaay too much Lisa Frank as a child.

Here are the four panthalassians up for adoption:

1. Royal Angelfish (Pygoplites diacanthus) Photo: [link] Blue! Yellow! I really like this guy.
2. Mandarinfish (Synchiropus splendidus) Photo: [link] I love this fish. It's my new favorite animal. I don't think I did it justice...
3. Royal Gramma (Gramma loreto) Photo: [link] I took some creative license with this one. Just purple and yellow is so boring...
4. Koran Angelfish (Pomacanthus koran) Photo: [link] I know, I know, my version looks like she's from the Artic...I just got tired of yellow by this point.

How To Apply
1) Comment below with the character's information (see below) and a link to your drawing.
2) Draw and color the panthalassian you want to adopt (see all rules below for this)
3) In the comments section of your drawing I want to see at least the following:
~ Name [Remember that their sex is already determined.]
~ Personality
~ What you plan on doing with the character (comic/story/breeding/rpg/adding to arsenal of OCs)
~ Brief history (please for the love of god do not write a novel)
~ Make a reference that the original design is mine and link to this adoptable sheet.
4) You can only apply for one of these guys.

Some Tips
1) I'm not here to judge your artistic ability, but remember that I put a lot of work into designing and drawing these. So, in return, please do your best to draw the panthalassian that you want. :3
2) I love writing, so the more detailed and creative your potential character is, the better.
3) I'm a little attached to #2, so if you really want him....show me. ;3
4) If you don't follow my guidelines and blatantly disregard them, you won't be picked. Mistakes are fine.
5) I know that these guys are...kind of complicated. But they're also unique, and being complicated is part of that. If you need help figuring out their anatomy or how they move, take a look at my gallery or NOTE me. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

What to Draw
~ Don't copy or reuse my lineart - the point is to see your own style!
~ Must be colored.
~ You can submit character reference sheets.
~ Please do not draw other characters (yours or not) with them.
~ You ARE allowed to make small changes to the design if you wish (changing the color of the spots, taking away a few stripes) but send me a note first. I have the right to say no to any request to make a major change.
~ Don't make major changes to their anatomy - I don't care if you have a few more or less fins on their spine, or if their ears look a little different, but don't start changing their wings or faces or bodies. Not cool.
~ If you read all of this, put "swallowtail" at the top of your comment.

The deadline to apply is next Friday, the 3rd of July, by midnight, GMT +8 --- I live in Taiwan.

For those of you who want to wait until the next batch, here are the fish I'll be using as inspiration:

- Common Lionfish
- Common Parrotfish
- Clownfish
- The Rainbow Fish (YES! Like the picture book. I love that book. )

Time taken: Maybe 5-7 hours, with Wacom Tablet, 0.1 Copic Ink Pen, and Photoshop
Music: Owl City all the way ^.^
