Description i designed this last night out of boredom and a desire to use some new fonts i downloaded; with an entire lack of something better to work with, i reverted to a TLA (three letter acronym) from the license plate game: frozen cheddar mold.

today at work i cut the thermoflex and heat-pressed it; 'old gold' thermoflex + brown 50/50 t-shirt = this fabulous gem.

adobe illustrator cs2 + omega composer + gerber enVision plotter + old gold thermoflex + stahl's heat press + generic cheapie 50/50 t-shirt ...i think that pretty much covers it.

on a side note: yop. i'm holding a squeegee. hehe.

Tis a cool shirt. So the letters and design are actually in a metallic color? Thats freaking sweet! You should make a Dangerous Zebra Propaganda shirt! LOL

just know that if you supply the artwork it has to be entirely vector (and no overlapping paths; added shapes and such are what i gun for). hehe. otherwise i could press one of my designs ^^

That's really awesome! I wish I knew how to print shirts properly. The only quickie printing I know is using spray-paint and paper stencil.

thanks ^^ it's much easier than you think it'd be, though not many people expect the process... i should take pictures sometime when i'm doing one...

thermoflex is really easy to use; it's a lot like the same process i use for making signs, only this stuff doesn't have a pressure-sensitive adhesive (it's a heat-sensitive bond...) but blah blah -- you need special equipment the casual joe won't have (plotter = $1,000+; the one i use was about $4,000 i believe... and the heat press, again, over $1,000... irons don't work with this stuff, unfortunately).

HOWEVER, hello projector and fabric paint, eh eh? yeah. or you could use a fabric marker to transfer the design or be a real badass and just take the paint directly to the blank shirt... i've honestly never used spray paint; i've only ever heat-pressed, screen printed, painted with fabric paint, used fabric crayons, fabric markers, and inkjet/dye-sublimation transfers. okay, so spray paint sounds like one of the few things i've missed out on i guess. hmm. hehehe.

sorry for the tangent.

I welcome detailed discussions from fellow artists. Yes, screen printing is a common method, and much cheaper than using the heat-press which is about the prize of a good laptop over here. How long have you been doing this craft?

since september of '07 (at least, making the stuff all by myself from design to the finished product); the sign shop i run has all the materials and machines i need (& the business also has screen printing tables... m'kay -- they do screen printing, trophies/awards, embroidery, promotional products and of course signs/other randomness that comes from my shop).

there's no way i could afford to purchase all that stuff for my own silly purposes, so it's beneficial to have the job & the ability to get stuff at cost! for me, doing the heat press business is cheaper than screen printing because there's no exposing/setting up screens, registering them, -- i just cut the stuff, line it up and press it. of course, heat pressing isn't good for anything in a quantity order, that's easier for screen printing, but for the 1-5 piece order or order of things that have variable data i'm t3h win.

Ah, then getting a heat-press is a business investment.

On my part, it's not anything close to printing. But I'm really willing to pay a lot in setting up a good airbrush system. It's also an expensive medium, but you know how it is when something has got your heart hooked... there's no turning back.

inubitably. i completely understand. interestingly, the heat press was the cheaper of the two necessary machines for doing the heat transfer stuff -- the plotter is key (and it's also what i use when i'm making signs, decals, etc. etc. it's sooo fun, i'd own one if i had lots of spare money because it's so fun).

i envy you for the airbrush stuff. i don't have space to do it in and i need a pressure regulator for the one i have access to... >_<
do you do more w/the airbrush than you post or no?

I recently just started, actually. But I was being too experimental with it and busted my aircompressor. I'm glad the airbrush itself is still okay, but I resolve to get a setup that is compatible with the unit and not a mishmash of do-it-yourself. Lesson learned.

hehehe, yeah... but the mishmash is easier sometimes, and sometimes it works... though unfortunately sometimes it doesn't.

I make an artwork, and you make an artwork. This is simply for the purpose of trading art. We'll post the piece in our galleries before we mail it off to each other. It can be anything, from sketches, digital or even crafts.

Of course, if you like, you may also do this with other deviants, and lots can be found here at the TradingPost club:
